creased audience total last year as com
pared with 1944-45. One teacher sadly
reported that her classes were listening
to all of the programs when their ra
dio was stolen and could not be replaced.
Others reported sets out of order. Un
til tubes are available and repairs pos
sible, their classes cannot be a part of
the audience again. Many interesting
comments were made by the teachers
on the survey sheets. One which amus
ed us asked KOAC to “try and teach
the students to have pride in our state
like Texas does.”
Mr. Morris is making enthusiastic
plans for three new broadcasts next
year. “Tell a Story” will be written in
a pre-school and primary grade vocab
ulary for those children too young for
the "Land of Make Believe.” “Nature
Trails” will fill many requests for na
ture study material. The third is "Ad
ventures in Research,” dramatized tran
scriptions.
Surely nothing is more important in
a democracy than education for knowl
edge and understanding. Directors of
commercial and educational radio sta
tions have in their hands one of the
most potentially powerful mediums for
spreading national and world harmony.
The state of Oregon maintains one of|
the remaining 22 educational stations
like KOAC. Citizens of our state should
be proud of the foresight and planning
which have made our state-owned sta
tion of tremendous educational value
to both the adults and children of
Oregon.
