ROUND-UP CHAPTER No. 24
On April 2 this chapter made the
necessary arrangements for Mr. Cole
man, Civil Service Director, to appear
at the Vert Little Theatre in Pendleton,
to answer questions and explain the
civil service law. A nice group of state
employees was present, representing all
departments and some from as far dis
tant as Lexington. Many questions and
doubts were cleared up and all seemed
to enjoy the discussion a great deal.
The following evening we held our
regular meeting, and all officers and a
good number of members attended.
The meeting ended with the showing
of color slides taken by "Pop” Chandler
while in the Aleutians. These were en
joyed by all, but no one was interested
in moving to those cold, dreary islands
to live.
Our May meeting was held in the
Highway office, due to the fact that
our Congressman, Lowell Stockman,
and a group of republicans held priority
on our regular meeting place at the Vert
Little Theatre. Considerable discussion
was had on various phases of the Re
tirement Act, which was cleared up by
a letter from Mr. Sailor. A wave of dis
appointment has been eminent in the
employees that the 10 per cent raise did
not materialize, and also the fact that
the retirement deduction will cut down
our take home pay made them feel an
adjustment is in order. The Executive
Secretary’s fine report was read, making
us feel better to think we have a man on
the job doing the best he can. It was
voted to not hold meetings in July and
August.
