The chapter having been formed in
their absence, perhaps in the future we
can count them among the members.
May 7 was our last meeting until
fall. "Frank” Neil Witting doubled his
appetite for angel food cake with wh‘p-
ped cream by reading the newly pro
posed by-laws of the chapter. We wish
to express our gratitude to the by
laws committee for their sincere and
worthy efforts.
A chapter meeting will be held in
September to nominate officers for
election in October. It has been de
cided the annual counsel meeting be
held before the coming Legislature,
thus necessitating a change in chapter
election dates. Linn Hill, president, ex
pressed the opinion that there is much
to be done by Oregon State Employees
Association if they are to have con
structive proposals to present to the
legislators.
WILLAMETTE CHAPTER No. 21
The Public Utilities Commission has
only one man remaining to be dis
charged from military service. He is
Lt. Marion L. Horton, now acting as
club officer in Honolulu. Marion makes
ah interesting flight twice weekly from
the island of Oahu to the larger island
of Hawaii. The City of Hilo is located
on the second island, and was the re
cent scene of a disastrous tidal wave.
On this island is the famed semi-active
volcano, Mt. Pele. Imagine Marion has
had some wonderful views coming in by
plane. The crater is over a mile wide,
but does not look it. Walter Thomas
reports that he tried to throw a rock
across once, but didn’t get very far.
Lt. Kenneth W. King was recently
discharged from the air corps and is
back at his old desk in the audit section,
catering to the needs of the public as
office auditor.
Chief Examiner Donald J e r o m e
Burke has been reading about the giant
rainbow trout being taken from Kam
loops Lake in Idaho. He dreams about
making the trip in a Piper Cub plane,
spending a couple of days.
In a way, the miners’ coal strike is
just as rough as the housing situation
to ex-GI Neal M. Hanson, who has
been assigned to Yamhill County with
office in McMinnville. He can t even
find a discarded quonset hut.
