CAPITOL CHAPTER No. 19
Chapter 19 decided to skip its April
meeting and put its energy into a big
May meet'ng at which it would act as
host to the four chapters from the
Public Utilities Commission, State Li
brary, Industrial Accident Commission,
and Department of Agriculture.
The main feature of such joint meet
ing will be to hear a discussion by the
new State Civil Service Director, Will
iam G. Coleman, covering the principle
problems confronting his department.
This meeting will be held at the Sa
lem Women’s Club Building, on May
16, at 8:00 P.M.
SIAC CHAPTER No. 20
In spite of the fine entertainment
and refreshments at our March meet
ing-there was a good deal of business
taken* care of also. Mr. White reported
the accomplishments of the General
Council meeting. Because of the length
of the report, discussion was postponed
until the next meeting. Mr. Stewart
gave an account of the detours encoun
tered relative to a general wage in
crease.
Recently the SIAC’s have acquired a
new meeting place, made available by
the Mayflower Dairy Association. Now
the chapter can prove its culinary tal
ents. Over fifty members present at
the last meeting can assure Ben Gifford
that Beth Greenlee makes good coffee.
The couple recently announced their
engagement. A few days later Evelyn
Van Ness stopped production in the
Tab room showing the diamond Gordon
Randall had given her.
President Hill has difficulty finding
things. One meeting night he could not
locate one of our entertainers. N ot long
ago he spent part of his day off look
ing for his automobile.
The March meeting was held on the
eve of the milk strike. Expectantly,
Ben Little announced he intended tak
ing home the half pint of milk served
him. "Mac” McAlpine kidded him out
of it by asking him if he intended to
claim the three cents deposit on the
bottle.

many ex-service men now working in
the Accident Commission: Robert
