George Rother, La Grande Shops, had
a queer experience—his cow was shot.
His neighbor was cleaning his gun and
finishing the job sighted the gun on
George’s cow, pulled the trigger,
BANG, down went the cow. Bad luck
George, but glad it was your cow in­
stead of some bystander.
E. B. Johnson, of La Grande Shop,
celebrated his Golden Wedding Anni­
versary April 5, 1946. Fifty years w th
one woman— we all hope you have fifty
years more of happiness.
Paul Cason has started working as
Assistant Shop Officeman in the La
Grande Shops— hope we aren’t too hard
on you Paul.
ROSE CITY CHAPTER No. 5
The regular meeting of Rose City
Chapter No. 5 was held May 10th, in
conjunction with Portland Chapter No.
17. Each chapter held a short business
meeting, then retired to the Wigwam
Room of the Redman Hall where Mt*.
Leo Smith introduced the speakers of
the evening. The following speakers
were guests of Leo Smith and Portland
Chapter No. 17: Alex G. Barry, John
H. Hall, Stanhope Pier, Robert Ben­
nett, Harvey Wells, Joseph Harvey,
Warren Irwin, Jack Bain, Pat Loner -
gon and John Dickson, all Representa­
tives in the Oregon Legislature, also
Frank Lonergon, Circuit Court Judge,
and Irving Rand, Senator to the Oregon
Legislature.
These men favored our bills in the
last session of legislature.
A fter the speaking we were served
sandwiches, cake and coffee by the
Portland Chapter No. 17.
Floyd Query, State President of the
O.S.E.A. attended our meeting of May
10th. Mr. Query answered questions
asked by some of the members.
Mrs. Wallace, the Division Office,
stenographer, has at last found a house
in which to move. The Wallaces have-
been living in a tourist auto camp for
the past several months.
That cheerful little woman, Helen
Dakin, who came here January 4, 1944
to help out in the District 1-A Main­
tenance Office for '‘four or five days”
quit April 27. There was always one
thing-you could depend on— no matter
how bad things would get, Helen al­
ways- saw the funny side. Helen made
many friends in the two years she was
here and will be missed by all.
Clay Cornett, who was transitman
on location at Pendleton for W. S.
Hodges, has been transferred to Divi­
sion 1, as Resident Engineer on con­
struction. Mr. Cornett’s first job as
a Resident Engineer is a section on the
Sunset highway.
Thad Green is back with us again
