Mr. Smith continued with his report
of the Ways and Means Committee:
Round-Up Chapter No. 24 submitted
a resolution that Association dues be
increased.
The committee recommended that
this resolution do not pass because the
budget showed there would be suffi
cient funds to carry on the activities of
the Association unless something un
foreseen comes up. The report of the
committee was adopted and the resolu
tion did not pass.
Astoria Chapter No. 8 submitted a
resolution that the state pay for tele
phones when ordered maintained for
state use only.
The committee recommended that
this resolution do not pass because it
concerns only one or two members in
one department and suggested that in
dividual problems be referred direct to
the Board of Directors and the Execu
tive Secretary instead of bringing them
up before the Council. The report of
the committee was adopted and the re
solution did not pass.
A resolution was submitted by Ore
gon Chapter No. 22 suggesting a
questionnaire to determine the attitude
of candidates for election to the Oregon
Legislature on matters pertaining to the
welfare of state employees.
The committee recommended that
the resolution do not pass. The com
mittee felt that we have no right to
ask a candidate for public office to
commit himself on any measure that
might come up and that we should not
cause the officers of the Association any
embarrassment by asking them to con
tact men who are running for office.
The report of the committee was
adopted and the resolution did not pass.
The following resolution was recom
mended for adoption.
BE IT RESOLVED by the General
Council of the Oregon State Employees
Association annual meeting assembled,
that a vote of thanks and appreciation
be extended by this body in behalf of
each and every member of the Council
and in behalf of the entire membership
of the Association to the governor and
