McCullough who enlister in the navy
rose from the rank of seaman to a lieu­
tenant. He served for over three years,
most of that time being spent in Paci­
fic waters. He is now an attorney ex­
aminer for the Commission.
Clare Miller, a sergeant in the Mar­
ine Corps, has returned to his position
as field auditor with headquarters in
Eugene. He was stationed in California
during his two years of service.
Wheeler R. English was discharged
from the Army in September after
serving for two years as a sergeant in
the finance school at Fort Benjamin
Harrison, Indiana. He is a field auditor
with the Commission w ith headquarters
in Salem.
Robert Knipe, who is with the per­
mit department, served in the Navy for
nearly three years in both Pacific and
Alaskan waters. He brought his bride
to Salem from California when he re­
turned in the summer.
Sgt. Dave Ringland was fortunate
to stay in Salem during his Marine ser­
vice, having served as Marine recruiter
for this territory. He is also a veteran
of World W ar I. He is w ith the per­
m it department.
Harrison W. Elgin, Jr., was released
as a Lieutenant in the Army in Janu­
ary, 1945, returning to the permit de­
partm ent in the spring. He served for
three years at various posts in Utah,
Oregon, California and Washington.
