Hearings on the bill are continuing,
and it is not yet certain what action
will be taken by the Senate Civil Ser
vice Committee regarding the basic bill

The ship received a hit by an aerial tor
pedo during the Anzio operation an^
returned to New York for repairs. La
ter the Mayo served in N orth Atlantic
convoy duty until April, 1945, when
it was assigned to the 3rd fleet in the
Pacific and engaged upon duty off
Okinawa. It took part in the massing
of American war vessels in Tokyo bay
for the surrender of the Japanese gov
ernment.
Schriver, who will return to the em
ploy of the Public Utilities Commission
soon, was discharged in the rank of
radio technician first class.
There will be more articles in the
future about our returning boys from
the service and their activities, but we
do want to welcome home the follow
ing veterans who are now discharged
and have returned to the Commission
er’s staff in the past couple of months:

We are happy to have them w ith us
and wish them every good luck in their
adjustment from military service to

Central Oregon is home to stay.
Berl Williams, bridge rat from the
Mitchell bad lands, was to leave Ger
many September 15 th for home. Does
anyone know if he made it?
G. A. Monroe, bridge gopher, an
other Mitchellite is home for good and
is doing a little fancy loafing for the
present.
Dick Henry, snow pusher from San-
tiam Junction is home and browsing
around getting acquainted again.
Paul R. Enos, back on the Green
Spring’s (December 1st) after a hitch
in the navy. He served time on an air
craft carrier. The Irish girls seemed
to take his eye.
