Clyde Gilmor, Station Foreman, was
so lonesome last summer he had to talk
to the jack rabbits. His crew was lured
away by better wages.
Mr. D. A. VanGilder, who was in the
1879th Aviation Engineers in the Phil
ippines for almost two years, has re
turned and is Section Helper at Moro
now. Working as truck driver in thé
Moro Crew is another returned service
man, Alvin F. Lawellin, who was with
the 303rd Bomber Group in England.
There have been lots of hunting
stories and etc., but not much evidence
to support the stories in this neck of
the woods.
COQUILLE CHAPTER No. 10
Well, it seems like old times again to
see a full crew gather in the yard here
each morning before work begins.
W. P. Laws took a short vacation,
after the hot patch crew, of which he
was supervisor, pulled in. He returned
from eastern Oregon with a big 4 point
buck.
Bud Haga and Col. .Rogers were seen
coming in with a buck apiece also.
Butch Avery went hunting and re
turned wet, mad, hungry, but no buck.
Walt Kinkead returned from River
ton last month and joined the Coquille
maintenance crew.
Does anyone know where Ed Wilson
hangs out? He was invited to a party
over to Saccies Slough and didn’t show
up.
Have had a few scattered showers
here lately, one about every 20 min
utes. Some are rain and some are hail,
yet not enough water to attract ducks.
NEWPORT CHAPTER No. 11
We had a large turnout at our Oc
tober meeting. Alex Gallager acted as
secretary as Theron Hicks was with
Starkey’s paving crew. We took in
three new members. We have 100 per
cent but there are some vacancies so
we will have more later.
Joe Arnold who has been in the
Army has received his discharge and
is back at his old job running shovel
at Astoria.

S. N. from Port Jinsen, Korea, states
he received his July-August magazine
and after reading and enjoying it, he
put it in the ship’s library. There are
several Oregon men aboard ship who
like to read the magazine.
