ters at Paisley while Clyde was ill.
Wm. R. Cannon Jr., left the employ
of the State of Oregon to enter the
navy on October 20th from Paisley.
His twin brother went w ith him.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. T. Snodgrass are
now residents of Alkali Lake, Mr. Snod­
grass having been employed on the
maintenance crew there. He previously
had been on the Newport crew.
Mr. and Mrs. S. Paul Jones and sons,
Pete and Wendell, arrived in Bend re­
cently from Salem. Paul is now Division
Office Engineer at the Bend office.
If anyone calls 110 Redmond now
they will be greeted by the pleasant
Louisiana drawl of Ex A. O. M. 1 C.
Tris A. Shaver, late of San Diego, H on­
olulu, Fiji Islands, New Hebrides, Sol­
omon Islands, Green Island, Emiru Is­
land and all points West. The customers
report that said drawl is in pleasing
contrast to the fishwife screech of For­
rest Cooper. Tris replaced Frank Mc­
Clure as District Officeman of 4B. Mc­
Clure was transferred to Coquille to
work in the Shop office. The Shavers
even got a house to live in, which is.
something to boast about in Redmond./
Tris is getting acquainted with his son
and heir, Ronny, who arrived while
papa was taking an airplane tour of
the world by courtesy of the U.S. Navy.
Frank William is now section fore­
man at Ochoco Summit. He replaced
Taylor McClay who is no longer w ith
the Department. Frank was formerly
helper at Madras. Koon McKenzie’s
(Madras) new helper is Harold William.
LA GRANDE CHAPTER No. 4
We recently had a visit from Mr.
Stewart who gave a talk, at our meet­
ing on October 12 th, on the progress
of the Civil Service Commission and of
our Civil Service Committee which is
working with the Commission. Mr.
Stewart also discussed the retirement
plan.
O ur new election of officers, is in
full swing with the returns to be an­
nounced at the next meeting.
Tom Sims, a former Paving Crew
Foreman, recently paid us a visit. Tom
is working in Portland now and was
here on a hunting trip.
Speaking of hunting trips, we un­
derstand that Lawrence Stumpenhaus
of the Sign Department is back with
the Department after spending a night
out in the wilderness while deer h u n t­
ing. No he was not planning on stay-
