time he was asked. He has 36% points,
ten more would have let him out.
John A. Howry is on the job again
after four years and two months in
the Army. He has seen most of Eur
ope and met with the Russians in Ger
many. We are glad to have him back.
Bill Grabenhorst is back with the
Highway Department a g a i n after
spending quite some time with the Sea-
bees in the Pacific. He was in Okinawa
toward the last of the war. Bill is
working with the extra gang at Seaside.
Joe Arnold is a civilian again after
duty with the Army engineers and is
employed with the extra gang at Sea
side. Joe looks good and like he might
have been eating three meals a day. We
are glad to have him with us again.
Leonard Batzner was last heard of in
Camp Parks, California. Since the last
reduction in points he should be eligi
ble for release and we expect him to
show up most any time.
Floyd Simon is in the hospital in
Guam where he underwent a major
operation. Floyd has been in Okinawa
and was just ready to come home. We
are hoping it will not be long until
he is back on the job.
Leland Dixon is back with the High
way Department. Leland was recently
discharged from the Marines. He is back
at his old job as officeman for J. D.
Walker at Burns.
Lt. Commander Lloyd Chandler is
being discharged from the Navy C.B.’s.
Pop has been in several theaters of ac
tion. Glad to have you back Pop.
Lt. Clare Jones is home after almost
three years duty in the European thea
tre. Before entering the service Jones
was foreman of the state sign crew in
Klamath Falls. Assigned to the 2nd
Armoured (Hell on Wheels) Division,
Clare saw service in Africa, Sicily,
France and on into Berlin. While in
Normandy he was awarded the bronze
star and given a field commission. He
also wears the Purple Heart and the
"fourguire,” a special medal conferred
by the Belgians upon members of the
2nd Armoured Division. Clare expects
to be out of the service soon and back
on the job.
Wayne W. Lithgow enlisted in the
C.B.’s in July, 1942, and left thg states
in April, 1944. While overseas he was
stationed at Pearl Harbor, Saipan, and
Okinawa with a Heavy Equipment De
partment. He left Okinawa Wwith the
3rd Fleet, aboard the battleship Iowa,
