**I am about twenty miles from
Frankfurt, Germany, trying to guess
whether it is C.B.I. direct for us or
through the States. I am still in the
combat engineer battalion as a me­
chanic and have seen a great deal of
Europe since I came overseas. I have
covered nearly all of England, France,
Belgium, Holland and Germany. Also
have been up into Wales. It is a pretty
country over here in places, but I
would trade it all in a hurry for Sa­
lem, Oregon and my old Highway job
in the shops.

back in the old familiar territory soon.”
Charles Campbell is home from ac­
tive duty in the Philippines. Mr. Camp­
bell applied for and received his dis­
charge from the Sea Bees and plans
to return to civilian life soon.
Cpl. John F. Kergil was married
April 27 in England. The Kergils plan

after the war. Johnie says he can hear
Uncle Sam calling from the South Pa­
cific, "Johnie get your gun, get your
gun” so he doesn’t expect to stay in
England long.
Olaf G. Fransen lost his father a
short time ago. We extend our sympa­
thies. Olaf is on duty in the Marianas.
He reports that work is about complet­
ed and they expect to move soon, maybe
to Japan where he hears they need some
highway and airport repairs.
Rolland H. McDonald, M.M.3/c is
in the hospital at Corona, California,
where he is recovering from a long ill­
ness. His wife and father are near where
they can see him.
Major Keith N. Flory stopped in to
greet old friends recently. Keith has
been with the army engineers in Europe
during the past year. He will go to
Texas to join his outfit for further
service in the Pacific. He said his ex­
perience while with our construction
department with Booth, Furrow, Phelps
and Franklin has been very helpful in
building for the Army.
