Among the instructors at the school
was Lt. L. H . Warfield, an Oregon State
College graduate who was employed
by the State Highway Commission as
Resident Engineer at Salem. He has
been in the service since 1942.
Major Wm. J. Bromley has been
awarded th Bronze star medal for mer
itorious service in connection with mil
itary operations during the period be
tween April 2$ and May 8, 1945. Ma
jor Bromley is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
James Bromley. James Bromley is the
District Maintenance Superintendent at
Grants Pass.
M /Sgt. Owen P. Badley is home from
Italy on a 30-day furlough. A fter his
furlough he reports to Virginia. He is
the son of R. H . Badley, patrol man
in Grants Pass.
In the army since December 16,
1942, Capt. John Beakey, former traf
fic engineer w ith the State Highway
Department, arrived home on his first
leave to be spent with his family since
leaving for overseas duty with a trans
portation unit of the army.
Captain Beakey, who came from Spo
kane to Portland by plane, for his 21-
day leave, since being returned to the
states February 19, 1944, has been hos
pitalized at Baxter General hospital.
W ith the D-Day invasion fleet when
it crossed the channel from England,
the captain on June 2 in Normandy,
received wounds for which he was
awarded the Purple Heart. Before being
returned to the United States he was
hospitalized in England.
