to his beneficiary. No payment is made
from public funds.
Severance Benefits (Section 16)
1. When a member who has contri
buted for less than 10 years ceases to
be a member for any reason other than
death or disability, he can withdraw
his accumulated contributions.
2. If he rejoins the System within
J years, he may repay the amount
withdrawn, and all rights will be re
stored.
3. If a member contributes for 10
years or more, and then drops out ex
cept by death or disability, his contri
butions will remain in the Funds. If he
dies before retirement age, his contri
butions will be paid to his beneficiary.
If he lies to his earliest retirement age,
he will then receive an annuity based on
the amount credited to him, plus, a
pension from public funds equal to that
part of his annuity attributable to his
salary up to $200 per month.
In the years ahead, when the lessons
still so fresh in our minds will tend to
grow dim, we shall need all the leader
ship we can muster—confident, strong
and spontaneous. There is only one
place where we can find it—where the
Marines and our other fighting men
have found it in this war—within our
selves.
—Gen. Alex. A. Vandergrift.
THIS
GOLD BADGE OF
COURAGE
COMMANDS YOUR RESPECT
Look for it—the little gold but
ton on a civilian’s lapel. It is the
only official OUTWARD indica
tion of a citizen who has given
service in the armed forces of our
country and who has been honor
ably discharged.
More than a million of these
badges are being worn today; many
more will be in evidence in the
months to come. The Honorable
Discharge Button clearly shows the
American eagle, with lofty wings
spread through a circle of gold.
GIVE IT THE RECOGNITION
IT DESERVES
TRUE GREATNESS
Were I so tall to reach the pole
Or grasp the ocean with my span,
I must be measured by my soul:
The mind’s the standard of the man.
