he gets an annuity equivalent to the
compulsory contributions then credited
to his account; plus a pension of equal
amount from public funds; plus an an
nuity equivalent to his voluntary con
tributions on any salary over $200 per
month. This is the benefit for service
under the Act.
2. The member also receives a prior
service benefit of $2.50 per month for
each year or major fraction thereof of
prior service credited to him but not
exceeding 20 years. This is paid fpr
from public funds.
3. An employer other than a school
district may arrange, when it comes
into the system, for a different credit
for prior service. (Section 15 (3 ).
4. No prior service benefit is avail
able before July 1, 1947.
5: A member may elect to convert
the "annuity portion” of his service re
tirement allowance into a cash refund
annuity, or a joint and survivorship
annuity. (Section 2Q).
Disability Retirement
(Section 22)
1. When the Board determines that a
member is eligible for disability retire
ment, he receives a disability annuity
based on his own contributions. He also
receives as a pension whatever amount
he would have received from public
funds had he continued to work* to his
earliest service retirement age. N o pay
ments will be made for the first 90 days
of incapacity, and any payments from
the industrial accident commission will
be deducted.
2. To be eligible for disability, mem
ber must be under his voluntary serv
ice retirement age. If disability is caus
ed by injury sustained in line of duty,
5 years service is required; otherwise
15 years of service is required. In or
der to be eligible, member must be
mentally or physically incapacitated
for an extended or uncertain duration.
Death Benefit (Section 21)
If a member dies before retiring, the
amount credited to his account is paid
