W H O ’S CRAZY
There are but few bright spots, if
any, in th life of a Paving Crew fore
man, and .some of them are short
lived.
The other day Ivan Dakin had just
about decided to shoot himself rather
than continue trying to get his hot stuff
shoveled when along came a. husky
looking prospect who asked for work.
Ivan explained all of the features of
the job, including the bad ones, and to
his surprise the man picked up the
shovel and fell to work with a zeal that
went out of style about 1936.
"The man must be nuts,” mused
Ivan, demonstrating perspicacity that
surpasseth understanding.
A fter Ivan had relaxed and decided
that the war was over and brighter days
had arrived, who should enter the pic
ture but two stern faced gents wear-ink
white coats and a look of determina
tion. They gently but firmly surround
ed Ivan’s hero and led him to a closed
wagon that bore the legend "Oregon
State Hospital” on the sides.
As the wagon drove away, the ex-
shoveler leaned far out the rear and
gave a hearty "Haw! Haw! H aw !”
Ivan thinks that there m ust be a
moral to this story, but he can’t make
up his mind between the old saying
One doesn’t have to be crazy-—but it
helps,” and the title to this tale.
CHAPTER NEWS
(Continued from Page 14)
the money was put in for the d raw in g
at the next meetihg.
While rummaging through the files
one day we ran across the following re
port w ritten by J. F. Waller who gave
permission to print it.
"BATES A ND PLATES”
When I got up from eats last eve, I
hadn’t et so much,
A spoonful out of this and that, a dab
of such and such,
And after eating I went out to clean
my lower teeth,
The damned things slipped from out
my hands upon the floor beneath.
They hit just wrong, they broke in two
and busted so completely.
Now what to do? I can not chew, must
I drink food, discretely?
Please send me full instructions in
words I’ll understand,
How I can gum these pork chops,
though lima beans work grand.
