Washington Grain Employees
Get Overtime Raise
Effective June 1, Washington state
grain inspection employees will receive
time and one half for overtime, over 40
hours. £
Seattle to Study City Wage Plan
r hé Seattle, Washington, city coun
cil has requested the civil service, com
mission to study a plan for a basic wage
rate to be established for city employees.
All future increases or decreases would
be governed by a cost-of-living index.
However, in no case would wages go
below the minimum rate.
Pay Increase fo r Clackamas Workers
Clackamas, Oregon, county road and
shop department employees recently ob
tained a substantial pay increase,, put
into effect by an order of the county
court. These employees now receive a
monthly salary rather than the former
daily wage. Salaries range from $ 1Q5 a
month for the Canby ferry operator to
$23 5 a month for the roadmaster, four
foremen, and three bridge carpenters.
The order also provided for annual va
cations and sick leave.
Massachusetts to Conduct
Classification and Salary Survey
Governor Daniel Tobin of Massachu
setts has approved the segregation of
$40,000 fo r a survey of classifications
and salaries of state officers and em
ployees. It is to be completed and filed
with the governor not later than A u
gust 1 of this year. The commission on
administration and finance has been
authorized and directed to make neces
sary arrangements to have the survey
çonducted by persons not in .state ser
vice.
Cost of Living Raises for
Minnesota Employees
Minnesota state employees have been
successful in securing the passage of a
bill which provides for basic rates of
pay and cost-of-living adjustments ef
fective July 1. By this measure state
