welcome news recently telling us that
Bill had been found in a cellar in Ger­
many and was safe. Just a few days
after Mrs. DeCew was here we received
a short V-Mail letter from Bill himself,
telling us of the good news. The letter
follows:
Barbara Collier, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. E. A. Collier of 1249 S. Commer­
cial, who has been promoted to aerogra-
pher’s mate 1/c. She has been stationed
with the navy weather bureau in Wash­
ington, D.C. Miss Collier attended Sa­
lem grammar schools, was graduated
from Grant high in Portland, and at­
tended the University of Oregon.
Thanks to interesting C.P.A. News,
published by the Division of Audits of
the office of Secretary of State, we have
the following:
Mrs. Bill DeCew brought us very
"Hello Everyone:
They knocked me down but not out.
A ME 109 got us March 2nd causing
me to leave the plane for the ground
by way of a parachute. Been a POW
from that time until just a few days
ago when they liberated us. Has been
rough at times but guess the experience
was worth it.
Although still in Germany, I will
soon be on my way to the states and
then home. Will no doubt be able to
stop in Salem.
