SALEM C H A P TER No. 1
The present highlight of this chap­
ter’s serious undertakings is the current
membership contest which is scheduled
to end at our meeting on September 11.
Our contest is between field and office,
and as past experience x e stifi^ the riv­
alry can be expected to be keen. Anyone
who works in the office 76.2 percent
of the time, is an "office employee,” so
the rules say. It looks as though many
contests may develop before the affray
is over.
All members of the chapter were no­
tified of the impending membership
drive by a letter ,painfully prepared by
one "Osmosia U. Parooshin” whose con­
nection as a chapter member comes as a
surprise to m o st. of us and his real
identity has aroused considerable curi­
osity.
"A, Good Time Was H ad by All”
The long scheduled, much talked of,
O.S.E.A. picnic took place at the Dallas
City Park, Sunday, July 15. Folks

started arriving in the late forenoon
and some were still there when the sun
went down. Most of the crowd gathered
near the entrance, gathered a bunch of
tables together, dug the food out of the
cars and went to work. The association
furnished coffee and ice cream. The
coffee was 'super-delicious” and the ice
cream dispenser was surrounded by kids
from 7 months to 70 years.
A fter most of the food had disap­
peared, some of the more ambitious
gathered at the ball park for a little
softball tournament. A f t e r much
switching around, four teams were as­
sembled. Floyd Query captained the
office team, Ermal Owens led the shops,
the field was in charge of Webb Ross
and Bruce Crandall handled the traffic
department. The shops and the office
mixed it up in. the first game with the
office coming out on top. In the second
game the field took traffic to the
cleaners— then office and field lined up
for the championship. A fter a long and
