troopers and is in the European theatre
of war.
LeRoy J. Dennis joined the Seabees
in March, 1942, and was in D utch H ar­
bor but; received an injury to the back
and was given a Medical discharge. He
had been carpenter in the John Day
bridge crew, but the doctor advised h im
riot to return to hard work for a con­
siderable time. His hoirie is, on Frasier
street in Pendleton. He is .also a veteran
o f W orld W ar I.
We have a letter from Bob Me A tee
from somewhere in the South Pacific.
He was assistant carpenter on the
bridge crew in John Day district when
he joined the Seabees in» March, 1942.
He is now a Carpenter’s Mate ,l/c and
says while he feels fine he’d like to be
in Oregon. He passed through John
Day last June on his way from D utch
Harbor to California and he says when
the war is over he is going back to the
Aleutians to fish, i .
He has seen the country from Texas
to Montana from ocean to ocean and
he says the Aleutians are the nearest a
fisherman’s paradise of anything yet. He
thinks he ought to know his fish and
fishing as he at least on one occasion,
tossed his hook among a Score of trout
and picked out one worth $20. Judge’s
estimate.
Sgt. John V. Boyer (Vern to us),
was bridge carpenter at John Day when
called into service. He joined the En­
gineers in the fall of 1943 and saw serv­
ice in the invasion of France and was
wounded in Germany in December,
1944. He was returned to the States and
is recuperating in a hospital in Utah.
