"Since coming to, France I have seen
quite a bit of country and have travel
ed over a number of their main high
ways. r was particularly interested in
the trees along the highways. If you
ever saw a death trap they have it here.
The roads are approximately as wide
as that section of highway between
Shedd-Tangent, etc. I (you should see
that section now) but the French
planted trees right on the edge of the
road and in traveling one can see where
some poor motorist hit these trees. They
also have stones painted white along the
edges approximately every 50 feet so
the idea is I guess, if you don’t hit a
tree you hit a stone marker. Farther
north the roads are torn up due to the
heavy fighting. Tanks tear up a road
also so all in all the roads here need a

St. Louie Sue, who has been taking
a Nurse’s Aid course, says she is now
so proficient that she can make the
patient without disturbing the bed.
The boat had just left Portland when
a sprightly little flapper stowaway was
discovered in a lifeboat. The captain
ordered her sent to his cabin.
"I don’t know what to do with you,”
he said as he questioned her.
"Say, skipper,” she said finally, "how
long have you been a sailor?” '
