Tom Cooper, son of Mrs. Teresa
Cooper of the State Industrial Accident
Commission, is home from Farragut,
Idaho on a week’s leave. The -'Navy
seems to agree with Tom.
Chief Wayne Lithgow of the Sea-
bees, is in the Mariannas, or was at last
writing. He may be in Tokyo soon.
Everett Lyman is also in the Seabees
and is on one of those Islands, being a
neighbor to Lithgow.
★ Reported missing since September
28 in action over Germany, Lt. Robert
S. Stearns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carey
Stearns, Lapine, was killed in action,
his parents have been notified. Lt.
Stearns, a bombardier, was in a plane
shot down only ten miles from Berlin.
The young officer went overseas last
May. He was attending Oregon State
College when he ¡entered the service.
Previous to that time he worked on
the maintenance crew at Lapine.
★ Pvt. James Koch Risen, 20, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Risen, Bend, has
been killed in action in the European
‘theater of war, his parents have been
officially notified. Only recently Pvt.
Risen had been reported missing in ac-
tiofi. Pvt. Risen volunteered for enlist­
ment while attending Oregon State Col­
lege, prior to that time he was employ­
ed on the construction party of W. S.
Hodge at Madras, His father is with
the Highway Department
Bend.
Cpl. Joseph Miller, former' Highway
Shop mechanic at the Salem shops, is
now soldiering at Fort Sill. Joe is help­
ing keep the jeeps and trucks going
down , that way and advises he is re­
ceiving a lot of good schooling on con­
voy movements and expedience as well
"as mechanical subjects. Joe expresses
his appreciation of our magazine and
Says he is all for it.
Elbert Elliott, formerly employed on
the Coryallis Section Maintenance
Crew, is .now on Leyte Island and. is
pretty busy dodging sniper bullets.
Andy Ayers, also- from Corvallis,!
running shovel for the C .B /s on Leyte.
The Hohner boys, Joe and Paul, are
together on a beautiful island in the
Pacific) but would glady trade it for
one look at Oregon.'
Orville Waddell, now serving as sig­
nalman on a Landing Craft in the Pa­
cific Area, reports that he has joined
the boxing team and is really making
a business of fighting these days. He
said that he was having it easy while
his boat was being used to evacuate
the wounded from Leyte.
