Kirk Lawrence is able-to' be up and
about after undergoing a major opera
tion in the Myrtle Creek hospital.
Elie Dubell has been on the sick list
for the last month w ith - ah infected
hand, but he plans on going back to
work in the near future.
We hope that these members all
make a speedy recovery and are back
on the job soon.
We were very glad to see the MilO-
group represented at our last meeting;
this being the. first tithe that, any, of
these members have attended;
Marshall Dresser has been in. Rose
burg supervising the construction of a
new bridge over Deer Creek.
BEND CHAPTER No. 3
Our membership activity during the
past sixty days has been very -‘g ratify
ing and an increase of' 29% over the
membership at the beginning of the
year indicates an interest in our or
ganization. ’
The crew at Alkali Lake had visitors
the other day, namely five P-38’s;
forced down. on the Alkali Lake Plight
Strip due to weather conditions. The
plane s were well guarded by Foreman
Taylor ?andc re w while thé pilots-made
preparations to get back to their base.
B Otis McKinnon has resigned as sec
tion foreman |B Prineville after 23
years’* Service; with the I Highway De
partment, and has accepted a job as
s'treet superintendent for the/G ity of
Prineville.
It appears that i Bili - Meeks has
sprouted- wings. We refer- to the
aeronautical 1 type as he spends his
spare time flitting among the air
streams and reports are that his flying
time has been completed, qualifying
him for his solo license.
LA GRANDE CHAPTER No. 4
James D. Staley, Section Foreman at
McDermitt, Nevada, -is | going I around
with his chest thrown out; the reason
is that the Staley’s had their first baby
January 11, l9 4 i, and a boy, too. He
was named David Earl, weighed 7 lbs.
T ounce, and arrived in Boise. How do
you like the washing Jim?
One of C. H. Armstrong’s men John
Roberts from Arlington, dislocated his
hip’ and we hear he is in Portland.
Two men from the La Grande Shops,
James- "Scotty” McPherson and George
W. Powell, have been having a tough
time lately trying to stay out of the
hospital. Get well soon boys, we miss
yOu.
Some of the boys seem to be having
quite a time. We hear that -Clifford
Morisette (working on Ollie Jones Ex
tra Gang at P ilo tR o ck ) had a bad
accident and injured his left hand.
Jess Beam transferred from Barney
Bull’s patrol at Ontario to Roy Scar
brough’s patrol at Baker.
Clarence Gruis, employed in La
Grande Shops, has been called for mili
tary duty. He will leave soon. Good
luck Clarence.
ASTORIA CHAPTER No. 8
The regular monthly meeting of As
toria Chapter wars, held February 24.
One of the many matters taken up was
a change in the local I by-laws permit
ting the refunding of dues paid in ad
vance by members leaving the service
of the State. It has been demonstrated
that members were unwilling to pay
dues in advance when they were not
certain as to the length of employment
by^the' State.
Members of Astoria Chapter are
widely 'scattered, Seaside, Clatskanie,
Jewell, and Mist, when the boys drive
30 and 40 miles to attend a meeting it
shows they are taking sn- active inter
est in the Association.,
Lyle Sacre and" his crew have just
completed extensive repairs. on the
Lewis and Clark bridge. Lyle had the
misfortune to rupture a blood vessel in-
