Edward H. (Eddie) Clymer w a s
born in Randolph, Nebraska, the son
of-pioneers who came fe>' America xin
the year 1688. His parents moved.,from
Nebraska (to Ohio when Eddie was four
years old. He received his. grade .schpol
education at A ttica, Ohio. He attended
high school at Elyria, Ohio and moved
to Chicago shortly after. A t Chicago
he started work for the West^ti^Rl^p-
tric Company and continued his edu­
cation by a 11 e n d i n g night school;
studying electrical engineering at Lewis
Institute and business administration at
LaSalle. He remained with the Western
/Electric Company at Chicago for seven,
years, during which time he was pro­
moted several times fro m ? a starting
position as helper on electrical ■ testing
,to assistant superintendent of th e . test--
laboratory.
In 1919 he came'fo Oregon on vaca­
tion leave and like so many Mid-west-
erriershe decided to,m ake it his- perm­
anent home. He was re-employed by the
Western Electric Company and in­
stalled many modern dial phon esy s-
tems throughout Oregon and Washing­
ton.
I D uring the winter of 1924 while
returning from a hunting trip he was
-involved in a serious automobile aCcifej
dent and Suffered severe injuries, which
prevented him from returning to Work:
fo r over three years. In the spring of
1928 he started work with the Oregon
State Highway Department -as time­
keeper for an oiling' crejv. A fter four
years as timekeeper during the summer
and computer during the^jwinter, he be­
gan work on contract cost Analysis for
the department. As the benefits of cost
analysis bec'ame- apparent the depart­
ment ,of cost analysis was created and

years. He is recognized as an authority

Mr. Clymer likes bd'ating and fishing
and’ is an excellent swimmer.-'He is-aC-
tive in the Masonic Lodge and the
Baptist1 Church.

ter-in-law on a farm about I'e-ve-ft miles
south of Salem.

Mr. Clymer has been very active in the
affairs of the Oregon State Employees
Association. He has /given muchkfcime
arid effort in the preparation and edit­
ing of this magazine. The results speak,
