ceived his gold oak leaves at Camp

at Grants Pass has three sons .in the
armed forces.
Clyde A. Holcomb, extra gang fore
man; has three sons serving in the U.S.
Navy. All of them are in the Pacific

Raymond A. Higgins, son of Mry
and Mrs. George S, Higgins,, route 3,
Salem, has been promoted to master
sergeant, Col. G. S. Doney, command
ing officer of harbor defenses of the
Columbia, announced this week. Master
Sgt.Higgins is a graduate of Salem high
school and of the Oregon Institute of
Technology at Portland. H e is now at
tached to Fort Canby, Wash., as wire
chief in charge of telephone communi
cations. Before. Entering the army on
active d u ty in September, 1940, he was
employed in the sign shop at Salem, of
the state highway department.
