sent several souvenirs to friends in Rose­
burg.
Pvt. Warren “Shorty” Househoulder,
formerly a member of the maintenance
crew at Roseburg, has embarked from
the east coast for parts unknown.
We had a visit recently from Sgt.
Dickerson of the Marines, formerly
with the Patching and Oiling Crews.
He is noW stationed at San Diego.

Lewis J. and Clayton K. Ansell S 1'/c,
sons of Leonard Ansell, of the LaGrande
Section Crew. Lewis is now in France
with the ordinance department and
Clayton is a gunner in the Pacific area.
Sgt. Bernard and Pvt. Robert Grui^»
„sons of Edward Gruis and brothers of
Don and Clarence Gruis< (employees of
the LaGrande Shops) are „in the service.;
Bernard is now serving in Italy while
Robert, a new recruit, is in the tank
battalion and is stationed at Ft* Knox,
Kentucky.
Clifford .(Dutch) Allstott, formerly
a mechanic in the Shop, is* stationed in
San Diego.
Jim R. McPherson . S 2/c, son of
James “Scotty” McPherson of the La­
Grande Shops is home on leave. He is
stationed at the Naval Training Center
in San Diego.
Pfc. Gail Williamson, a brother-in-
law of Edward Chidsey of the Mainten­
ance Division in LaGrande is now sta­
tioned at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Gail was with the Oiling Crew at Ba­
ker at one. time.
^Sgt. Donald Travers©, former em­
ployee with the Oiling Crew, is ,s-iâè,<
tioned in Champaign, Illinois. His wife,
the former Virginia Kletz, and baby
are with him.
I Joseph E. Gately on November 1,
1944, returned to the State Highway
Department, Traffic Engineering Di-
yjsiop ,after 32 months in the service.
Joe enlisted as a Shipfitter (Draftsman)
in the “Sea Bees” in February 1942,
and took his basic training in Rhode
Island and Virginia. After four months
he went overseas, with the 3rd Naval
Construction Battalion and Was station­
ed on New Caledonia, While there, he
contracted asthma and was sent to the
States in February of 1943 after 8
months in the South Pacific. From Feb­
ruary to May of 1943 Joe “bounced3!
from hospital to hospital in California
waiting for doctors to determine if he
was fjlr for limited duty or a Médical
Survây. Finally he was assigned to the
Santa Ana Naval Air Station at Santa
Ana, California, where her was located
until July of 1943. From Santa Ana
Joe Was transferred to San Diego, Land-
