Cpl. Gerald W. Naderman has been
in active service in the European the­
atre since shortly after the D-day in­
vasion. '
Cpl. Naderman was formerly a mem-1
her of the Medical Det., O.N.G.(Salem
Unit) having enlisted in July 1940.
After serving two years at Fort Stev­
ens he was sent to the East, coast and
was stationed at Fordham University
when the Army program at that school
was discontinued. He was: then trans­
ferred to his present unit and shortly
thereafter went overseas.
Cpl. Naderman is the son of Geo.-V.
Naderman, Ass’t State Engineer, and
Mrs. Naderman, who reside at 1024
Highland avenue, Salem.
Lieut. Colonel George Hester, in
command o f1 a battalion of Army -anti­
aircraft, half-tracks, visited with his
former cronies in the I Highway De­
partment a few weeks ago and'is look­
ing fit. He intimates that he< is west­
ward bound for active service after two
years of intensive"training in this coun­
try. He commands some of the best
armored equipment in the service and
we are confident that George and his
outfit will give a good account of
themselves. |
It is reported that Paul E. Davies,
formerly with the Highway Testing
Laboratory at Salem and now a Chief
Carpenters Mate (Engineering) in the
Sea" Bees, has- been -»hospitalized with
arthritis of the spine. Late reports in­
dicate he is now up and around bait
still under medical surveillance. Paul
spent many months in active service
in the Aleutians supervising the con­
struction of unloading docks, service
roads, etc. Due to his recent illness he
has been confined to a Naval Hospital
in the States and reports receiving the
finest óf care and treatment. We look
forward to Paul’s speedy /recovery.
C. F. (Chuck) Hageman breezed in
on his old friends of the Highway Test­
ing Laboratory at Salem-a short time
ago after having spent 19 months in
the Aleutians as a C.P.O.— Storekeeper
with thè Sea Bees. He is now stationed
at Camp Parks, California awaiting re­
assignment. Incidentally, we under­
stand Ghutk received his present rating
in active service, which speaks well for
his ability.
Oscar White, long time employee afe
the Highway Testing Laboratory at-
Salem, is reported actively > engaged as
a Materials - Inspector with thé Mari­
time Service at Los Angeles., Based on
his past experience, he should be doing
well in his present position.
Lt. Hilbert "Hill” Young of the
CB’s, formerly a transitman for the
Highway Department, spent the Christ­
mas holidays with his family in Rose­
burg/ He took part in the invasion of
Normandy. He had a small Navy un­
der his command; his "flagship” was
a P. T. boat and he was in charge of
several "Alligators.” He r$ff*into "Pop”
Chandler over there someplace and had
quite a time talking about thè past.,
present and future. Lt. Young returned
to duty shortly after Christmas.
Cpl. Warreii Mann seems to be doing
as well in the South Pacific as. he' did
when he was working' with the main-:
