A Brief E xplanation of the Social
Security Act
(Continued from page 30)
A qualified worker dies leaving a
widow and two young children. If his
primary benefit figures out at $30, the
widow receives her three-fourths, $22.-
50 per month, until the youngest child
is 16, or 18 if in school, and he is un
married. Each child receives one-half—
$15 each. This would make a total of
$52.50 a month for the family.
But if there were three or more
children, this family would receive $60
a month, because that is twice the
worker’s primary benefit.
An unmarried woman who was sup
porting her aged parents dies. If her
primary benefit would have been $30,
each of them get $15, since they are
both past 65.
Lump-sum death payments may not
be more than 6 times the monthly
benefit to which the worker would
have been entitled. For exemaple, if
the monthly benefit is $30, the lump
sum death payment could not be more
than $180.
