CHAPTER NEWS
(Continued from page 17)
And it would seem from the general
theme
'That no hard work is done.
But let me say, it’s not all play
And the romance can quickly go
When you freeze your feet in the wind
and sleet
As you ride thru the drifting snow.
I served my time in the dust and grime
At roundups in fall and spring.
When I roped and sweat ’till my clothes
were wet
I wanted no camp-fire sing.
Warm winds on the slope and all that
dope—
Yes, they are delights I know,
But take my share of the prairie air
When it registers thirty below.
You read accounts of the boys and
mounts
And you’d think their thoughts were
one;
That the horse would mind like a
trained canine;
But that just wasn’t done.
My own cayuse— how he’d cut loose!
And spill me time and again.
In retrospect I may love him, but Heck,
I didn’t love him then.
I want to go back to my old ranch

I’d like to stay for maybe a day
And look things over once more.
But the west can go that I used to

Right here I’m spilling my beans—
I’ll take my fun with horses and gun
From the movies and magazines.

ROSE CITY CHAPTER No. 5
Let it be known to all readers, Rose
City Chapter is still in the game pitch
ing, even though we have not appeared
in our Magazine for the last two is
sues.
Resident Engineer Rod Porter has
taken up his abode at Astoria for a
while where he will be in charge of
road construction near the Naval hos
pital. Rod recently completed the ela
borate cloverleaf at the Denver and
Union Intersection near Vancouver. He
was ably assisted by Jay Barbee on this
job and they deserve a lot of credit.
It is a little late, but we want it
known that Rose City Chapter had a
very fine time at their picnic on Au
gust 13 at Jantzen Beach Park. Presi
dent Dakin forgot hotstuff long
enough to brew some good coffee. For
once all the kiddies got their fill of
ice cream, and the old folks didn’t do
so bad. Members spent most of the
afternoon at the amusement center,
right along with the kids, even Mr. and
Mrs. Frank T. Young reverted to sec-
