Group Life
Insurance
Elsewhere in this issue will be found
an account of the untimely death of an
employee of the weighmaster division
of the highway department. A check
for $1,000 was recently delivered to
the widow by the California-Western
States Life Insurance Company, which
is under contract to furnish group life
insurance coverage to employees of the
highway department. The protection
has been available to hourly-rate em
ployees since May, 1939, and to month
ly-rate employees receiving salaries of
less than $200 per m onth, since Sep
tember, 1942.
Although no amount of insurance
can compensate for the loss of a loved
one, many of the problems confronting
a recently bereaved widow are solved
by the receipt of an insurance benefit
payment, as in the above-mentioned
case.
We believe the time will soon come
when such a plan, providing low-cost
life insurance, through payroll deduc
tions, will be made available to all state
employees, and certainly those em
ployees to whom the coverage is now
available, should consider well its ad
vantages.
