further explanation of why our meet
ings last until the last late hour.
Cliff Lenz, Rudy Zimmerman and
crew, who have been valiantly fighting
the chuck-holes with sprinkling can and
brush, put on a wild demonstration of
welcome when Roy Boldt appeared
around Neah-Kah-Nie Mountain with
his Mechanized Division.
Harry Melton, who came to Western
Oregon to get the Alkali dust and sage
brush out of his hair has recently been
transferred to Redmond. Don’t feel too
badly about it, Harry, you may some
time again be able to visit the land of
Cheese, Trees and Ocean Breeze.
Skinner Dameler, Pave Patch No. 1,
is using all his spare time digging clams
on Tillamook Bay.
CHAPTER No. 16— GRANTS PASS
Our chapter is one of the youngest
in the State Association. We have over
60 members, and our meetings are al
ternated between Medford and Grants
Pass.
The regular monthly meeting was
held at Grants Pass, and was well at
tended. A new president and vice pre
sident were elected. This was necessi
tated by the inability of our former
president, Mr. James Bedingfield, to
attend meetings and also by the en
listment of W alter V. Poole, vice presi
dent, in the U.S. Navy. Paul Robertson
was elected president. Carol Converse
vice president.
We .have one veteran of World War
I and one of World War II in our
Chapter, the latter is Mr. Rulo Roberts,
who has been honorably discharged
from the Army.
We adopted a constitution and By
laws at our last meeting.
The State must improve the effec
tiveness of their administration if they
do not wish to lose still further in the
struggle for power with the Federal
Government. (W. B. Graves, “Ameri
can State Government”)
