The Return o f Government Hill
In November, 1977, a vote was taken by the City of Siletz and
the majority agreed to return Government Hill to the Siletz
Tribe. It was a very controversial issue, with strong opinions
on both sides, as you can see by the above cartoon which was
in the Lincoln County Leader Newspaper.

Shown on the upper left, is the Ceremony in which Govern­
ment Hill is formally returned by representatives o f the City
of Siletz, to the Siletz Tribe. No names were available with
photo.
The middle photo shows the “Tribal Community Center” when
it was under construction and located on Government H i l l
The lower left photo is the “Tribal Community Center” when
completed. Picture taken by Teresa Miller.
The Tribal Community Center was used as Central Office for
the Administration section of our Tribe. This was used until
a new, larger building was built in November, 1995.
