What Was Done Last Month?
AN EAGLE'S VIEW
Ray Blacketer attended a training seminar
entitled, "marking With Rt Risk Youth". The
focus of the training was understanding
"Solution Oriented Therapy.” The techniques
discussed were very interesting and helpful.
These techniques were all aimed at ways of
assisting
our youth to focus on positiue,
solution oriented change. More information on
this subject will be shared next month.
Denise UJilson, Janet Dair, Bill Barrese, and
myself met with the Siletz School, and then
with the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Tribal Member
school children about a support group at the
Siletz School. The focus of the group is on
Education and Awareness of alcohol and drugs,
as well as a general support group.
It is
scheduled to meet twice a week. The first
meeting is scheduled at the end of October.
Again, Oenise UJilson was uery busy.
She
facilitate another Mentorship Talking Circle.
She also obtained Council approual for using
the Social Seruices Building as a Youth
Recreation Center, after Social Seruices moues
to the new Administration Building. She has
organized Friday Night Court at the Siletz
School Gym, and she is organizing a Haunted
House for Halloween. She is still following up
on Teen Court and assisting other Tribal youth
to attend the State Prevention Conference in
Sun Riuer. In addition Lei Lani Cordoua, Denise,
and 7 High School Trial member youths will be
going to the Youth Leadership Deuelopment
Retreat in Tampa, FL, in December. This actiuity
is sponsored by Siletz Indian Housing.
The Siletz Halley Partnership had a meeting on
Oct. 23rd. Last month, we identified goals and
workgroups.
This month we reuiewed the
activities of those workgroups.
These are: Goal #1 -Community Education, a
Community Newsletter, and Community Norms.
The first newsletter is scheduled to come out
next week. In this issue we will be talking of
education and norms, among other issues. R
community Christmas Tree was discussed.
Another issue was a MHDO sign and where to
place it.
Goal #2: The partnership talked of approaching
the Siletz City Council about changing the
curfew. It will be suggested to lower the
curfew from 12:08 midnight to 10:80 pm., on
weekdays. It would remain 12:00 midnight on
the weekends.
Representatives of the
partnership will ask to be on next months City
Council agenda to present this idea.
Goal #3:
Several ideas concerning Seniors
were discussed. The most prominent being a
Seniors Telephone support network.
Also
discussed were concerns about Senior abuse
and how to address this.
Individuals volunteered to work on each goal.
R group was at the Siletz School on Oct. 25th,
putting
together
the
first
Community
Newsletter.
R draft letter to City Council
concerning curfew is being formulated^ and
two individuals agreed to pursue Senior issues.
It was agreed that by next month, a Mission
Statement for the Siletz Halley Partnership,
with Goals, Objectives and timelines, would be
ready for the Siletz Partnerships review.
