CONGRATULATIONS
BEVERLY YOUNGMAN
Congratulations are In order to Beverly
Youngman, graduate of Oregon State University,
who received the Allworth Cultural Awareness
Leadership Award. The recognition is among the
highest given by the University to outstanding
students.
She was cited for her efforts as the
Coordinator of the Native American Longhouse at
OSU, pow wow planning and organization and her
contributions to the Indian community and Indian
education.
While at Oregon State University, Bev
was a member of the Minority Affairs Task
Force, the Cultural Center's Advisory Board,
and the Native American Student Association.
During the last two and a half years, she was
also employed in the College of Forestry.
Beverly is a m ember of the Siletz
T ribe's Education Com m ittee, and a 1989
recipient of the Arthur S. Bensell Scholarship.
As a member of the Education Committee, she
advocates "lifelong learqipg" for Indian people.
She is also the grandmother of Spencèr Hatch
and Camden Flock.

AWARDS
WINS
Randy Fisher, Siletz Tribal Member,
won several awards at the Spring Sports
Banquet held recently at Toledo High School. He
was selected as a Valeo League All-Star in golf
and also received the "Most Valuable Player"
trophy on the -Toledo Gqlf Team.... F^andy is an,
avid golfer and currently plans to continue
toward a golfing career.
He also received two certificates for
outstanding achievem ent as an outstanding
student In U.S. History and Drama at a school
assembly.
The week of June 8-16 Randy was one
of the 550 high school junior boys attending
Boy's State at the University of Oregon In
Eugene. The rigid agenda was training in
citizenship and government functions., _ Qity,
county and state governments were formed,
with elected officials. Issues were discussed
and laws presented for a vote.
Randy was
elected as a lobbyist for his hypothetical state
government. Typical dorm life and cafeteria
food for the week was sponsored by the
American Legion.
Randy will be a senior at Toledo High
School this fall. He has pre-selected advanced
classes and has been accepted in the school's
Scholars Program. Also, he will continue as a
peer counselor for several of the county
schools.
This summer he plans to spend a few
weeks working for the Athletic Department of a
W ashington State Tribe and to golf a few
courses In that state before returning for
football practice In late August.

Rachelle Endres, daughter of Duane and
Chris Endres, Granddaughter of Virginia Gongloff
has demonstrated that she Is an exceptional Ice
skater.

IN
AUSTRALIAN MEET
ADELAIDE, Australia - Two local ice
skaters won seven gold medals for figure
skating in the Skate Australia Open.
Rachelle Edres, 8, of Long Beach won
four gold medals, and 11-year-old Melissa Kinz
of Norwalk captured three golds and one silver.
"They did really well”, said Jennie
Walsh, who coaches the girls at Iceland skating
rink in Paramount. Jenny came in 4th in the
1984 Olympic's.
Endres, a second 'grader at Brethren
Elementary School In Long Beach, won her
medals in freestyle, figures, interpretative and
pairs skating. Kinz, a sixth grader at D.D.
Johnson Elementary in Norwalk, won gold
medals in pairs, freestyle and figures and a
silver medal in the dance competition.

CONTRACT HEALTH CLERK
Tribal Member Angella Robertson has
been hired as a Contract Health Clerk for the
Confederated Tribes of Siletz. She entered
this position through JTPA and bacarne

A ng ella has
previously been employed In other aspects of
the health care field.
Angella recently moved back to
Lincoln County from San Diego with her
husband Robbie and sons Dale and William. When
asked why she and her husband had decided to
move to Siletz, Angella replied , "To raise our
family within their own culture."
Angella enjoys working with people in
a meaningful capacity and adds a spark of
mischief to the office.

Bernard Stevens Holland and W illo B.
Daugherty take pride in announcing the birth of
their son Charles Buford Daugherty. Charles
was born on April 23, 1990 at 5:59 a.m. He
weighed 7 lbs, 7 oz. and was 20 1/2 inches
long.
G randparents are Buford and W illa
Daugherty of Newport and Joe and Minnetta
Holland of Portland. Great-Grandparents are
Helen J. Orton and the late Charles J. Orton of
Toledo. Charles has eleven Aunts and Uncles:
Irene, Kathleen, Jeffrey, Daniell and, Sandy
Holland; Lesia and Brian Warner; Julie and Tom
Gleason; Lawana and Larry Thorne; and nine
Cousins.
Charles joins an older brother, Garrett,
who is impatiently waiting for him to get big
enough to play baseball.
