Evelyn Pearson Gibson, 74, late a
resident of Vernonia and formerly a
resident of Portland for many years,
died Wednesday, September 30 at a
Portland hospital following a brief
illness.
Funeral services were held at the
Latter Day Saints Chapel in
Vernonia, October 5 at 11 am with the
President Tom Allen conducting
service with assistance from Dick
Madsen, Wallace Noakes, Henry
Hudson, Peter Holbrook and the
Vernonia Relief Society Choir.
Committal services were at Skyline
Memorial Park with dedication of the
grave by Lloyd Randall.
Mrs. Gibson was born in Provo,
Utah on May 19, 1907, the daughter
of Scott and Myrtle Mabien Stewart.
She spent all of her early life and

Canine parvovirus or “dog flu”
made a lot of news headlines last
year. It is still with us and probably
will be from now on. The virus causes
severe diarrhea and vomiting in dogs.
Young dogs are particularly affected.
Death can result in the worst cases.

Local St. Helens veterinarians
report sporadic outbreaks have been
seen throughout the year. They
usually follow dry weather. The fear
is that there will be another major
outbreak like the one last year.

received her early education in Provo
and then attended Brigham Young
University. After finishing school she
taught school at Provo. On
September 30, 1939 at Oakland,
California she married Denton W.
Pearson.
They came to Portland in 1945. She
first had her own secretarial services
office in the Benson Hotel for a
number of years. She later worked for
a number of years as a secretary for
the Oregon Education Association
until her retirement. Mr. Pearson
proceeded her in death in December
1966. She was married at King City
on December 29, 1969 to Claude
Gibson and since that time she had
made her home in Vernonia.
Mrs. Gibson was an active member
of the Vernonia Branch of the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She also enjoyed oil painting and
quilting.
Surviving is her husband, Claude
Gibson of Vernonia; four children,
George D. Pearson, Corvallis;*
Michael Pearson, Ontario, Oregon,
Mrs. Francisco (Nancy Escobedo),
Pioche, Nevada, and Mrs. Owen
(Denise) Dixon, Portland. Also 15
grandchildren, Andrew, Margaret,
Rebecca, Christopher, Jennifer,
Timothy, Melissa, and Heather
Pearson, Joshua, Jacob and Nicholas
Escobedo, Stephen, Eric, Michelle,
and Shannon Dixon. Also surviving
are three brothers, Paul Stewart, "
Provo, Henry of Salt Lake City, and
Ray Steward, Orem, Utah; four
sisters, Mrs. Alonzo (Eloise) Morely,
Provo, Mrs. Fem (Flora) Bennion,
Salt Lake City, Mrs. Dan*(Bonnie)
Mulloney, Fort Worth, Texas, and
Donna Hanneman, Spokane. Three
step children, Mrs. Richard (Pat)
McNair, Amboy, Washington, Mrs.
Owen (Claudine) East, Vernonia and
Claude Gibson, Jr., Courtney, B.C.
