"political football"
To the Editor:
Some of the comments being made
in Columbia County regarding HB
2620 (aid to impacted areas) do not
square with the facts. I hate to see an
issue that seriously affects people
made -into a political football.
Unfortunately, that may be what is
happening. Some political hopefuls
may be trying to create a campaign
issue. It seems to me there is
something dishonest about creating
an issue for campaign purposes.
The thing to remember, above all, is
that the Senate passed version of HB
2620 would have provided the money
to aid the Mist area. If the House had
concurred, the Columbia County
' C^mnussion - at this very moment -
would have the funds and also the
legal authority to dispense them. The
failure of the bill in the House was the
only legislative event that prevented
solution of the problem.
I call your attention to the fact that
the Clatskanie Chief editorially
endorsed the Senate amendments. All
of the Senate amendments were
proposed by Columbia County people.
None were invented in Salem. As Gail
Steele stated in his editorial, “...some
compromises (must be made) between
the warring factions over the matter
in the county.” That’s what the
Senate amendments did, provide a
compromise.
Those are the facts. They cannot be
denied. Anything else being said is
just so much smoke, so much
campaign fodder. Don’t be deceived.

Pediatrician joins hospital staff
A second pediatrician has joined
the practice at Columbia Hospital
District Health Center, St. Helens.
Dr. Harry J. Marshall began his
practice here in July, moving west
from a pediatric practice in
Connecticut. He joins Dr. Frederick
Grambort in the pediatric practice at
CHDHC.
A native of Wisconsin, Dr.
Marshall received his bachelors
degree in physics in 1969, from
Massachusetts
Institute
of
Technology, Cambridge.
His pre-medical studies were at the
University of Wisconsin at Madison,
and he completed medical training at
the Columbia University College of
Physicians and Surgeons in New
York in 1976.
Dr.» Marshall’s residency in
pediatrics was at Yale-New Haven

Development Program Committee
will meet on Monday, October 12,
1981 at the Village Inn, St. Helens,
Oregon at 6:30 pm.
The guest speaker will be Howard
Cutler, Planner for the City of St.
Helens, who attended a week-long
seminar on economic development
this past summer. He will speak
about the seminar and the variety of
projects in which the OEDP can
become involved.
The public is invited to attend.

Health Center in New Haven, and
was an assistant clinical professor of
pediatrics at the Yale University
School of Medicine in New Haven.
Dr. Marshall, who decided that he
liked Oregon while on vacation here,
resides in Scappoose.
