Planning Commission has fixed
the 31st day of August, at 7:30
pm
in
the
Vernonia
Administrative School District
47J office, Vernonia, Oregon as
the time and place for a public
hearing. The purpose of the
public hearing is to receive
testimony on the amendments to
the
Columbia
County
Comprehensive Plan for the City
of Vernonia's Urban Growth
Boundary area, amendments on
the Land Use Designations and
amendments to Columbia
County’s Zoning Map for the
Vernonia Urban Growth area.
Testimony can be given in
writing, prior to or at the public
hearing or presented orally at the
public hearing.

obituary...
Albert Martinez
Albert Martinez, 95, a resident of
the Vernonia community from 1922
until entering a St. Helens nursing
home recently, died late Sunday,
August 9 at St. Helens following an
extended illness.
Funeral services were held at the
St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Vernonia, on Friday, August 14 at 9
am with the Rev. Jerome Schmitz,
pastor at St. Mary’s Church,
officiating. Concluding committal
prayers and interment were at the
Vernonia Memorial Cemetery.
Albert I. Martinez was bom in
Manila on the island of Luzaon in the
Phillippines on May 1, 1886 and
spent his early life there. He joined
the Merchant Marine service in 1912
and came to the United States and
settled at Astoria in 1918, living
there until coming to Vernonia in
1922. He worked at the Oregon
American Lumber Company mill in
Vernonia from the time it started
until his retirement. He was a
member of the Catholic Church.
His wife, Estelle Martinez, whom
he had married at Seattle, preceded
him in death here in 1952. Suviving
are two step daughters, Natalie
Vaughan of Irving, Texas and
Madeline Hermes, Malrose Park,
Illinois.
Funeral arrangements were
entrusted to the Fuiten Mortuary of
Vernonia.
The Meat Department Manager at the Beaverton Mall
Albertson’s for five years Zeke says, “I’ve lived here for
six years now and I love it, and I’m looking forward to
serving all my friends and neighbors.”
