“I was bora in 1964 in Portland,
Oregon. My parents are Larry Sauer
and Velora Johnston,” Melody says.
“I attended school in Portland until
the summer after my second grade
year. Then my parents and family
moved to a small farm five miles
outside Vernonia. Three years later
my parents divorced. Two years later
my mother Velora remarried to
Lawerence Johnston. We moved to
his farm 20 miles outside Vernonia in
Birkenfeld,” she says.
“My hobbies are physical fitness,
horse gaming and riding, creative art
work and volunteer help. This
summer I helped coach a kids T-Ball
team in Mist, for children five to nine
years old. This was not only exciting
but also rewarding,” she added.
“I would like to attend Portland
Community College in Rock Creek
and major in medicine and take a few
art courses after my senior year. My
plans are to work part-time and
attend college,” Melody said.
“I am a senior at VHS and plan to
attend college to study some form of
child care. Whether it be working
with the deaf or working with abused
children. I enjoy working with
children who have physical handicaps
and who need someone to care for
them,” Tawna says.
Tawna continues, “I love playing
my guitar and writing songs about
my life and the people around me. I
love the outdoors and enjoy going
camping.”
“I enjoy being a Jamboree Princess
and find that it has been very
exciting. I think the neatest thing I
like is all the nice people I have met,”
Tawna says.

Bom in a small town called
Wheeler, just off the northern coast
this 17 year old princess says, “I’ve
lived most of my life on a farm or out
away from the city, growing up as a
tom boy. Then, in the summer of
1974, we moved to Vernonia where
my father worked as a lineman for
West Oregon Electric Co-op.”
“My first week in Vernonia was
just before Jamboree so everyone was
getting prepared, and when Jamboree
came, it was a new experience I knew
I liked, and would enjoy every year,”
Holly says.
“I have now lived in Vernonia for
six years,” she says, “and have had
most of my schooling here. I will be a
senior this coming year, and at the
present time plan on going on to
college to major in business courses.”
Holly continues, “My mother,
Shorron Holm and two brothers
Brandon and Darwin still are
residents in Vernonia, but at the
moment I’m living with my new
family, Chris Krieger and her two
sons. I enjoy living in Vernonia and
am looking forward to a terrific
Jamboree this year.”
