Disabled Vietnam vet
overlooked for Sexton job
To the Editor:
This being the International Year
of the Disabled Veteran, we are
curious as to why the city of Vernonia
does not practice the slogan “Hire A
Vet”.
In the recent filling of the position
for cemetery sexton, the council
passed over. a disabled Vietnam
veteran with over two years
experience at the Vernonia Memorial
Cemetery in favor of someone else. Do
the city fathers know about the
automatic tax credit of over $3000
they are entitled to when hiring a
disabled Vietnam veteran? One would
think that with the economy being
what it is things such as this would be
considered
when
reviewing
applicants, even though experience
and a genuine desire and need for the
job apparently are not so considered.
We, along with many other citizens
and patrons pf Vernonia, are very
disappointed and disillusioned with
this decision.
