Kindergarten registration set April 23
Thursday, April 23 is kindergarten
registration for the school year 1981-
82.

There Will be no
regular
kindergarten classes that day:
It is important that we know the
number of kindergarten children that
will attend school at Vernonia
Elementary School next year. A child
must be five (5) years of age on qr
before November 15 of that year to
enter kindergarten for the first time.
A birth certificate is necessary. If you
have a child or know of a child that
will be in kindergarten next year,
please inform them of this
registration.
If you do not have a birth
certificate please send for it now to
have it for registration day. Forms
are available at Washington Grade

I recently heard of an incident that
happened on the streets of Vernonia
that just broke my heart.
A young boy of 12 or 13 had a
grand mal (Epileptic) seizure on a
sidewalk in Vernonia. A crowd of 10
people gathered to see what was
going on. This in itself is not unusual
but what got to me is the fact that
they all just stood around and stared
at the poor kid like he was a freak in a
circus.
No one checked his pulse, no one
made sure he wasn’t going to swallow
his tongue, no one even thought to try
and make him more comfortable.
After all, epilepsy is not a
contagious disease. I’m not even sure
Gymnastics meet
set for April 18
GYMNASTICS MEET SET
On Saturday, April 18 Columbia
River Gymnastics Academy will host
a Class III meet. The meet will be
held at the St. Helens Jr. High at
11:30. Admission will be free.

competing in four meets with team
mates, Donna has brought home soine
impressive scores for a first year

gymnast.
Donna’s
highest scores on the four events she
must compete in at each meet are:
floor-8:00; bars-6:95;
beam-7:65;
vault-7:45; with an average all around
score of 27:70. Donna’s 8:00 floor
exercise score earned her a fifth place
ribbon at Longview, Washington. For

are so scared of getting involved.
Even doing something wrong is
better than doing nothing at all. At
least that’s what they told us in
cardio-pulmonary training.
It’s not saying much for our world
these days that anytime a kid falls
down or acts strange the immediate
assumption is that he’s on drugs.
I just hope and pray that if this
ever happens to one of my children
that there is at least one, out of all the
people standing around, that has
compassion enough to at least lay a
coat under his head and smile and ask
how he is when it’s over.

bills—I’ll get there soon.

medicine bills. Ken is a wonderful
druggist.
Our thanks to Norma at the Senior
Center for helping me also. She’s a
wonderful person and we should all be
thankful we have her.
I want to thank Jessie Andrews for
being so good to me. She’s helped me
a lot and I’d do anything for her.
