Monday night’s city council
meeting witnessed an event that has
become increasingly rare these last
several months: a decision.

LCDC urged the city council to look
carefully before taking any action
that would fundamentally change the
parameters of this plan. In addition,
the state transportation department
mentioned concerns over the effects
of increased road traffic and road
usage on the highway surface itself.
Following public testimony from
both sides Councilperson Marge
Dunay moved for denial of Miller’s
request. After being seconded, the
motion to deny was approved.
Claiming his opponents had not
properly filled out their petition to
have his proposal denied, Miller
threated to go to LCDC to re-petition,
apparently in the belief that they can
overrule the city council.

community why our local newspaper
doesn’t print the minutes of the
school board meetings.
The minutes of the school board
meetings are sent to the paper after
every meeting. I have talked to the
people at the paper twice without any
answer why they won’t print them.
The people of our community pay for
their schools through their taxes and
should know how their money is
spent. Also it gives us, the school
board, a chance to have our side of a
problem heard when there are letters
to the editor in the paper over a
school problem.
Our schools are the heart of our
community. They not only employ
the largest number of people in our
community but are also a large part
of our social life.
Our community has always backed
their schools whether it was passing a
school budget or supporting a team
competing for athletic or scholastic
honors and I think that’s fantastic.
You have the right to know what’s
happening in your schools.
This community needs a newspaper
and I urge everyone to support ours,
but at the same time we need a
newspaper that will support us. It
should be a two way street.
