Citizen’s bi-monthly meeting found
19 persons turning out for the
afternoon. A pot-luck luncheon was
held at noon at the Jewell Grange
Hall. Two tables of pinochle were
enjoyed after the luncheon with the
remainder of the people playing
*Bingo. Table decorations were sent
over by Myrtle Slanger. Julie Fraser,
Jewell granger, was hostess for the
group making and serving the coffee.
Next meeting will be held February
13.
Emanuel Episcopal Church will be
holding services February 1 at 11 am.

A “Free” movie will be held at the
Jewell School sponsored by the Jewell
Community School. The movie,
Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the
Orient Express” will be shown on the
school’s video cassette. To help
defray expenses, lemonade and
popcorn will be sold.
Elderberry Inn restaurant is closed
for the month of January. It is a time
for cleaning and painting as well as a
well deserved vacation for the
owners, David and Nellie Morgan.
The restaurant will re-open February
4. If you are hungry traveling to or
from the coast, remember, “Oneys”
in Elsie is open for your pleasure.
Jewell High School and valley
residents will be hosting Yaquina’s
basketball team for two days.
January 30 the teams will start play
at 7 pm. After the game the Yaquina
students will be guests at valley
resident’s homes for the night and the
teams will meet again Saturday,
January 31 at 2 pm.
The Jewell team traveled to
Perrydale last Friday where they put
another mark in the loss column.

Marion S. Siedelman
Funeral services for Marion S.
Siedelman, 78, and a lifetime resident
of Vernonia were held Saturday
January, 24, at 2 pm at the Fuiten
Mortuary Chapel in Vernonia. Harry
Brownlee and Lyle Vankeuren of the
non-denominational faith officiated.
Committal services followed with
interment being held at the Vernonia
Memorial Cemetery.
Marion S. Siedelman was bom May
10,1902 in Vernonia, Oregon, the son
of Otto and Emma Braun Siedelman.
He grew up and received his
schooling at Braun school. Mr.
Siedelman worked most of his life in
the lumber industry. He went to work
in a saw mill at the age of thirteen. In
the twenties he worked for all of the
logging firms in the area as a fire
warden. He married Emilie Felong on
May 21, 1931. Most of their married
lifetime was spent in the Vernonia

Mr. Siedelman died Thursday
January 22
at the Tuality
Community Hospital in Hillsboro,
following a short illness. He is
survived by his wife, Emilie, at the
family home in Imnaha and three
children, Mrs. Jim (Janet) Fields of
Imnaha; Mrs. David (Nancy) Temple,
Salem, Oregon and Donald Siedelman
of Ketchikan,
Alaska.
Seven
grandchildren and two great
grandchildren survive as do four
brothers and one sister; Cort
Siedelman, Culver, Or.; Edwin and
John Siedelmen both of Vernonia, and
Victor Siedelman of Portland; and
Nora Keith also of the Vernonia area.

Marion’s favorite hobbies were
