patroling more heavily on New Year’s
eve than any other time. “If you see a
drunk driver on the road get a license
number and report it to the local
authorities,” he said. “Don’t try to stop
them. Just keep dear and drive safely.
People around here are pretty good about
drinking and driving,” he added. “I don’t
foresee any problems,” he said.

As members of the Co-op hold dinners
and collect money for membership, a
rummage sale is being held in the Co-op
storefront to pay rent and utilities. “We
need to keep the store,” said Deakin.
“When we get enough money to get going
again again we’re going to need a place to
conduct business,” she added.
Gurtie Schalock feels that the fund
raisers may be defeating the members’
purpose. “I think it will be a long, long
process because those young people don’t
seem to realize that the Co-op can’t pay
for the dinners they have,” she said.
“They don’t donate the food, they buy it.
I'm a member of several groups,” she
continued. “We have always donated at
least most of the food, if not the meat.
That’s how we've always made the most
money,” she said.
“I really think one of the major reasons
the Co-op failed was economic,” Deakin
said. “Prices got higher and money got
scarce. Right now we’re trying to
condense everybody’s viewpoint into
practical work,” she added. “I don’t know
when, but I think we’ll make it,” she said.
