Ladies Golf

Edna Hailey walked off with the honors
at the Tuesday night golf match. It was
“Poker” score match for the thirteen
ladies who turned out for their regular
play at the Vernonia Golf and Country
Club.
The Ladies Golf Club consists of thirty-
three to thirty-five ladies coming from
around the Vernonia area and as far away
as Beaverton and Jewell. Tuesday night
meetings and play start in May and run
through September. Lady guests are
welcome to come join the fun.
Carol Bodenheimer, President, presided
over the short business meeting held after
the golf match.
Obituaries
Last Sunday morning on the day of the
pioneer picnic, one of Vernonia’s older
pioneers passed away. Lee “Buster”
Rodgers died August 17, and his funeral
was held yesterday at Vernonia Pioneer
cemetery, August 20 at 1:30 pm. Buster
was.much ingrained into local history and
a full obituary will come on him next
week. Buster was interviewed in Freedom
for “Nehalem Valley People” in the
December 27,1978 issue.
SUDDEN RICHES—Marge Morishige
out bolwed 1,910 other contestants
between March and June of this year to
become the Division “A” champ of the
Oregon State Womens Bowling
Association and won over $330 in the
process. Marge, seen here being presented
with her award by Kathleen Madsen,
District One Director for the OSWBA
says that although she doesn’t know what
she’ll spend the money on, she’s sure
she’ll find something. Although a bowler
for the last twenty years, Marge says she
only bowls once a week. Talent will tell.
Notes On Folks
Patty Fetherston, (Mrs. Allen Fetherston
of San Diego, CA) and her children Alina
and Jonathan were recent dinner guests
at the home of Ruth Steers, Patty’s
grandmother. Mrs. Fetherston was
staying in Forest Grove with other
relatives and was in the area to attend the
wedding of her brother Mike Schamp o f
Hillsboro.
Last week Mrs. Steers had her sister-in-
law, Emma Kuehn as her house guest,
Emma had been visiting other relatives in
Canada and Alaska and was on her way
home to Chula Vista, CA.

visited friends here recently.
For two years Russ has been stationed
at the Naval Air Station at Alameda,
California and is an electrical and
electronic maintenance man.
Along with the regular assigned work,
Russ has been taking some college
credited courses and has kept himself
trim and fit w ith participation in
basketball, track, raquet ball and his
latest venture, boxing. Says Russ, “You
got to keep fit down there with all the
competition.”
Russ came to Portland to attend the
EUB summer camp at Jennings Lodge
and regrets he couldn’t see all of those he
wanted to while here.
Last Friday August 15, Ida and Dan
Richards went out to celebrate Dan’s 92
birthday at Jayn e’s D elights. The
Richards have lived in Vernonia for 50
years and Dan was bom at Bear Lake,
Idaho in a covered wagon.
The Richards were joined by longtime
friends the Pete Klein family. With Pete
and Violet Klein were Larry and Judy
Klein and their children Larry Jr. and
Kimberly also Paul and Julie Ramsey
with their children Derek, Steven and
Corrie.

announce the birth of a son, Mason
Wright Holmes on August 16 at 12:52 am
at the family home. The birth was
attended by local mid-wife Mary Self.

Mason Wright weighed 7 lbs even and
joins sister Jenna and brothers Chris and
Dtivid. Other grandparents are Charles
Wright of Denver and Mr. and Mrs.
