Page 12 Oregon News Herald January 2026 Oregon Public Safety Police Blotter LANE COUNTY Eugene - Police responded to a series of reported vehicle break-ins in the South Hills and Friendly Street neighborhoods during the early morning hours of January 4. Officers say multiple vehicles were entered overnight, with most incidents involving unlocked cars. Items reported stolen included wallets, small electronics, and personal documents. Police canvassed the area but no suspects were located. Investigators believe the incidents may be related. Residents are urged to lock vehicles, remove valuables, and report suspicious activity immediately. Eugene - Officers responded to a welfare check on January 5 after neighbors reported concerning behavior from a resident near West 11th Avenue. Police contacted the individual and determined no crime had occurred. The subject was referred to appropriate support services. Springfield - Police arrested a 32-year- old man on January 6 after responding to a disturbance call at a business near Main Street shortly after closing time. Officers say the individual was intoxicated, refused to leave when asked, and became verbally confrontational. He was cited for disorderly conduct and released at the scene. No injuries were reported. Springfield - Police also responded to a traffic collision on January 4 involving three vehicles near Mohawk Boulevard. Minor injuries were reported. One driver was cited for following too closely. Junction City - J C Police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 99 on January 2 during evening hours. Officers say one vehicle failed to yield while entering traffic. No serious injuries were reported, though both vehicles sustained moderate damage. One driver was cited. Junction City - Officers also assisted with a welfare check on January 6 after a concerned family member requested contact with an elderly resident. The individual was located and determined to be safe. Cottage Grove - C G Police assisted South Lane Fire & Rescue on January 5 following a reported structure fire involving a detached shed behind a residential property. Officers helped secure the scene and manage traffic while firefighters extinguished the blaze. Officials say improper disposal of ashes is believed to have caused the fire. No injuries were reported. Cottage Grove - Police responded to a reported theft on January 3 involving a stolen bicycle from a downtown location. The investigation remains ongoing. Florence - Police took multiple reports of mail theft in residential neighborhoods on January 3. Residents reported opened mailboxes and missing packages. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes. No arrests have been made. Florence - Police also assisted Oregon State Police with traffic enforcement on Highway 101 during the weekend of January 5–6, issuing multiple warnings and citations for speeding. DOUGLAS COUNTY Roseburg - RPD arrested a 41-year-old woman on January 7 following a shoplifting report at a downtown business. Officers recovered merchandise valued under $100. The suspect was cited for theft and released. Roseburg - Police also responded to a noise complaint on January 4 involving a large gathering at a residence. The situation was resolved without citations. Sutherlin - Police responded to a domestic disturbance on January 4. After investigation, officers arrested one individual for harassment. The victim declined medical treatment. The suspect was lodged briefly before release. Oakland - Deputies assisted Oregon State Police during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 on January 6. A driver was cited for driving without a valid license. No other violations were noted. Drain - Deputies responded to a vandalism complaint at a city park on January 5 after graffiti was discovered on restroom facilities. Officers documented the damage and forwarded the report for cleanup and follow-up investigation. Elkton - Douglas County deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash near Elkton on January 2. North Bend - Police assisted EMS with a welfare check on January 4 after a caller reported concern for a neighbor. Officers found the individual experiencing a medical emergency. EMS transported the person to Bay Area Hospital. LINN COUNTY Albany - Police were involved in an officer- involved shooting on January 6 in the 1300 block of Twins Lane NW after responding to a reported domestic disturbance involving a weapon. Officers encountered an individual armed with a knife. During the encounter, officers discharged their firearms, striking the subject. Officers immediately rendered medical aid until EMS arrived. The individual was transported to an area hospital; their condition has not been released. No officers were injured. As a precaution, North Albany Middle School and North Albany Elementary School were placed on temporary lockdown, which was lifted once the scene was secured. The Benton County Major Crimes Team is conducting the investigation. Officers involved were placed on administrative leave per department policy. Albany - Police also responded to a reported burglary at a commercial property on January 3. Entry was made through a rear door. The investigation remains open. Tangent - Linn County deputies responded to a minor injury crash near Tangent on January 6. One driver was cited for distracted driving after rear-ending another vehicle. Shedd - Deputies assisted a disabled vehicle on Highway 99E on January 5. Traffic was slowed briefly while the vehicle was removed from the roadway. Harrisburg - Deputies responded to a noise complaint involving a large gathering on January 4. Officers made contact and resolved the issue without issuing citations. BENTON COUNTY Corvallis - Police responded to multiple reports of package theft during the week of January 1 in residential neighborhoods. Officers are reviewing reports and reminding residents to use secure delivery options when possible. Corvallis - Police also assisted with traffic control following a minor collision on January 5. No injuries were reported. Fire / EMS Blotter LANE COUNTY Eugene - Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a medical emergency on January 3 involving an elderly resident experiencing breathing difficulties. Paramedics provided on-scene care before transporting the patient to a local hospital. Springfield - Fire crews responded to a reported kitchen fire in a Springfield apartment on January 5. The fire was contained to a stove area and extinguished quickly. No injuries were reported. Officials say unattended cooking was the likely cause. Junction City - Junction City Fire assisted EMS with a fall-related injury on January 4. The patient was evaluated at the scene and transported for further treatment. Cottage Grove - South Lane Fire & Rescue responded to a structure fire on January 6 involving a detached shed. Crews contained the fire before it spread to nearby buildings. No injuries were reported. Florence - Siuslaw Valley Fire & Rescue responded to a medical call on January 2 involving a cardiac- related emergency. The patient was stabilized and transported to PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center. DOUGLAS COUNTY Roseburg - Roseburg Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on January 5 along Interstate 5. The fire was extinguished, and no injuries were reported. Traffic was briefly affected during cleanup. Sutherlin - Central Douglas Fire & Rescue responded to a medical emergency on January 3 involving a possible stroke. The patient was transported to Mercy Medical Center. Oakland - Oakland Fire assisted Oregon State Police with a rollover crash on January 6. Crews stabilized the vehicle and evaluated the driver, who declined transport. Drain - North Douglas Fire District responded to a reported chimney fire on January 4. Crews confirmed a minor flue fire and advised the homeowner on inspection and cleaning. Elkton Douglas County Fire District No. 1 responded to a single- vehicle crash near Elkton on January 2. One patient was transported with minor injuries. Yoncalla - Yoncalla Fire responded to a medical assist call on January 7. The patient was evaluated and released to family members at the scene. Reedsport - Reedsport Fire Department responded to a lift-assist call on January 5. No transport was required. COOS COUNTY Coos Bay - Coos Bay Fire Department responded to a residential smoke alarm activation on January 4. No fire was found. Crews replaced batteries and cleared the scene. North Bend - North Bend Fire & EMS responded to a medical emergency involving chest pain on January 6. The patient was transported to Bay Area Hospital. LINN COUNTY Albany - Albany Fire Department responded to a structure fire alarm on January 3 at a commercial building. Crews determined the alarm was caused by a system malfunction. Tangent - Linn County Fire responded to a grass fire on January 5 near Tangent. The fire was contained to a small area and extinguished without damage to structures. Shedd - Shedd Fire District responded to a vehicle crash on Highway 99E on January 6. One patient was treated on scene and transported. Harrisburg - Harrisburg Fire Department assisted EMS with a medical call on January 4 involving a diabetic emergency. The patient was stabilized and transported.
