Spring has finally arrived in Douglas
County. Thanks to generous donations made to
the Yoncalla Beautification Project (YBP) an
additional 28 hanging flower baskets will line
Eagle Valley Road and Main Street this spring
and throughout summer. The result should be an
anticipated total of 40 colorful baskets.
New posts and flower basket holders, as
well as new civic signs, are being made by Jess
McHaffie’s Yoncalla High School shop students.
Once the flower baskets are in place, they will be
watered daily by Dorane Slocum.
Another YBP project made possible by
donations will be replacing worn-out USA flags,
which are flown during federal holidays, with
new flags. Currently, YBP also is working with
the City and high school to coordinate a city-
wide cleanup day.
People wishing to purchase or sponsor
flower baskets or to make tax-free donations
to YBP can do so by contacting YBP treasurer
Doris Bartlett at 541-315-0608. Meetings are
held at the Community Center at 6 p.m. the
fourth Thursday each month and are open to
the public.
Landon is a role model to his peers when it
comes to honesty! I can always trust him to tell
the truth in any given situation.
Josie is an upstanding person. You
know she will always be straight
forward and honest.

Beverly Ann Henderson passed away
peacefully at her home, in Yoncalla, OR,
surrounded by family on March 26, 2025.
Born February 13, 1940, in Klamath
Falls, OR; Beverly grew up in Lakeview, OR,
where she met and married the love of her life,
Daniel ‘Byrd’ Henderson. Together, they shared
“a love others merely dream of,” travelled
the world and raised five amazing children.
Beverly, known to her family and friends
as Beve, had the privilege of growing up in
simpler times, when days were spent in the
company of family and friends, wandering
the hills on horse back and stopping to pick
strawberries wherever they could be found.
As a young woman, Beve became
an ideal military wife. When she wasn’t
following Byrd around the world, with
multiple children in tow; she could be found

parents, during their final years. She found
stateside, maintaining a home and life for
her family, as a beautician and seamstress.
Beve was well known for her skill in the
kitchen and everyone was welcome to a seat
at her table. She genuinely enjoyed cooking
holiday meals, which always included minced
meat pie and oyster stuffing to round out the
feast that she had begun preparing at 4:00am.
After their years of military service
were complete, Beve and Byrd returned to
Oregon with their youngest son in 1982,
settling in Klamath Falls to care for Byrd’s
elderly parents, during their final years.
Beve opened her own businesses, Beve’s
Upholstery, in the small town of Merrill, just
south of Klamath Falls. She proudly ran her
business for many years, recovering everything
from sofas to tractor seats. During those years, she
taught several friends and family members the
art of upholstery, but none could ever match the
skill level or attention to detail, that had won her
customers from all over the Pacific Northwest.
Once retired, she and Byrd chose to
serve as camp hosts for Oregon’s State Parks,
where they made new friends from around the
world and entertained several grandchildren
during the summer months. She thoroughly
enjoyed every minute of her time spent in
the woods, nurturing her grandkids, teaching
them to hunt mushrooms, and fishing
alongside them at the rivers and creeks.
Beve and Byrd eventually landed
in Yoncalla, OR to care for Beve’s ailing
the community welcoming and made many
new friends who were truly cherished.
She will be lovingly remembered for her
strength of character and kindness of heart, by
her surviving children: Daughter and son-in-law,
Marie and Shawn McNamara of Sutton-Alpine,
AK; daughter Laura Brandt, of Yoncalla, OR
who lovingly provided care and company to
her in her final years; son and daughter-in-law
Rob and April Henderson of Klamath Falls,
OR; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren;
3 great-great grandchildren, 3 aunts, numerous
nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband
Daniel, son Stanley Dale Henderson, daughter
Doris (Dori) Elaine Stuart; grandson Michael
William DuFaux, parents Elmer and Esther
Barclay; and 4 siblings. Arrangements are in
the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
Larre Joseph Jackson, 88 passed away
peacefully on April 4, 2025, in Drain, Oregon.
Born to the late Francis and Genevieve (Hite)
Jackson in Weiser, Idaho, on September 5, 1936.
Larre graduated from Drain Union High School
in 1956. On September 5, 1971, Larre married
his beloved Shirley Hunter in Reno, Nevada.
Larre’s journey through life was as
rich and fulfilling as the forests he would later
come to know as a timber faller. As a high
school student, he began shaping his strong
work ethic at the Drain Theatre, and later at
Wooley’s Mill in Drain. It was this dedication
and hard work that carried him through to
a successful career, ultimately retiring as
a respected timber faller—an occupation
that reflected his deep love for the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife Shirley; daughters
Diane Medina, Lorre and her spouse Darrell Hart,
Deena Jackson; sons Troy Jackson and his wife
Faith, Larre Dean and his spouse Kelly Jackson;
11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
An avid outdoorsman, Larre found
solace and joy in hunting, fishing, and camping,
especially when joined by his children.
There will no services held. Arrangements
are in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral
Chapel and Crematorium.
