Congratulations C heryl Bigelow was promoted from Springfield Secretary to Commu nity Health RepresentativeZIohnson O'Malley Coordinator. Bigelow has worked for the Tribe since March, 1989. Douglas Brown of Siletz was recently hired by the Siletz Economic De velopment Corp, as a Salmon Production Worker. Elouise Case of Siletz was promoted from Head Start Bus Driver to Coordinator of the Tribe's Elder's Program this summer. Roxanne Elkins of Siletz (formerly o f Eugene) started a job with ST- EDCO as a Salmon Production Worker in July, 1989. Kelley Ellis of Siletz was named to the Miss Siletz Court during this year's Pow Wow. Sue George was selected as the new Secretary at the Tribe's Springfield Area Office. George, worked for the Tribe previously in Salem and Springfield. Don H udson started in August as the new JTPA Counselor in the Tribe's Portland Area Office. Hudson worked for thè Tribe previously between the years 1979-84. M egan Jan ik of Cascade Locks was selected to the Little Miss Siletz Court by judges at this year's Pow Wow. Stacey Robertson of Portland was named to the Miss Siletz Court during this year's Pow Wow. Illene Somes o f Portland was name advocate for Indigenous Peoples of North America by an international association of counseling professionals. Kelly S trickler o f Portland was crowned Miss Siletz at a ceremony held prior to this year's Pow Wow. K im Thom as o f Salem was named to the Little Miss Siletz Court at this year's Pow Wow. M ary Viles of Prineville was invited by the Northwest Intertribal Court System to be a part of its judges pool. Viles is a longtime Siletz Tribal Court Judge. Alice W erth, currently' Supervisor of the Tribe's Springfield Area Office, celebrated her 10th anniversary as an employee o f the Tribe in June, 1989. G loria W erth received an award and plaque from the Native American Program of the Oregon Legal Services Corporation for a decade of service as a board member. Werth is one of two original boardmembers still serving on the NAPOLS Board. National News Briefs New Stamp Sitting Bull, 19th Century Sioux Chief, spiritual and political leader, will be honored by the US Postal Office with a 28-cent stamp to be issued on September 14,1989. Sit ting Bull joins Red Cloud and Crazy Horse as Sioux leaders recently hon ored in the G reat Americans Series of Stamps. A special dedication ceremony will be held the first day o f issuance- -9/14/89-in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, South Dakota. New Seal The Bureau of Indian Affairs re ceived official approval of its revised and updated official seal first author ized by Congress in.1892. The seal carries the date of 1824, the year the agency was created—re placing 1892, the year Congress gave its approval for the seal—and the US Dept. o f Interior replaces United States o f America around the top o f the seal.
