David H ostetler have been at Vanderhoof, British Col umbia on a combined business and pleas ure trip . Reverend H ostetler was a guest speaker at fellowship meetings at the Van derhoof Mennonite church in connection with the celebration of Canada's Thanks giving day, whichi is October 9. While in Vanderhoof, they were the guests of Mr. and M rs. M erle Kropf. Reverend H ostetler also had a chance to get in some moose hunting. M rs. Joe Kropf accompanied the Host etlers to Vanderhoof and visited with her daughter's fam ilies, the Henry Reeders and Bill Schidts. The Sheridan Women's study club met at the home of Lucille Belieu on Thurs day with 13 members in attendance. Guests were Fern E berhart and Valora Irwin. City manager, Bob Hendricks was the guest speaker, and his subject was water. He felt the public did' not have enough information p rio r to the water bond elec tion la st month. He stressed the need for information meetings and discussions so an informed public could vote on the issue of obtaining w ater from the Yamhill River. There is an acute shortage of water during the sum m er months, and the riv er would have an adequate supply to meet these needs T ests conducted by Keystone Engineering firm of Seattle showed the treated w ater from Yamhill River would be palatable and safe to use. Q O Q O flB a h a sa a e Mr. and M rs. Cal Yoder, Mr. and M rs. Wesley Shenk and M rs. Luella Shenk were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and M rs. Troy Sims of Willamina. Friday evening M rs. Ken Shenk and M rs. Calvin Yoder went shopping in Salem for sewing m aterials for use by their church women's groups in making baby layettes and quilts for the needy. Kenneth Knutson J r . was an overnight guest of his parents, Mr. and M rs. Ken neth Knutson, on Monday. Young Knut son is with the Coast Guard and is on patrol duty of the Russian fishing fleet along our coastline. Mr. and M rs. DeArmond Boches enjoyed a three day visit in Roseburg on Oct. 6-8 at the home of Mr. and M rs. John Pe terson and family. On Sunday they were joined by Mr. and M rs. Kenneth Williams and Gregg, and Mr. and M rs. Alvin Wil liam s. This gathering was to celebrate the birthdays of Kenneth Williams and Alan Peterson. On the return trip home, the Bocheses stopped to visit their dau ghter Sonja who teaches in the Corvallis school system. M rs. Frank Zook was a weekend guest of M rs. E lla Loren of Silverton. On Sunday they visited mutual friends. Thurs day M rs. Zook visited with her daughters' families in Salem, the George Simonsons and Dick Shaws. bo Sheridan The City of Sheridan granted seven buil ding perm its in the month of September totaling $31,770. Sheridan has applied for a $io,ooo # 701 planning grant. Les DeHart attended the Oregon Ele mentary P rincipal's Association meeting Portland on Monday and Tiesday. The Christian Women's luncheon will be held at Michelbrook on October 23. Sp eaker will be De Anne W ormersley of McMinnville. She will also provide the musical num bers. Special feature will be a show of fall fashios from The Cellar in McMinnville. For reservations call M rs. C raig Norwood at 843-3051. r L arry DeHart was home for the weekend from Clackamus Community College where he is studying electronics. Also visiting the DeHarts during the week were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hugh son from Tillamook. Miss Karlene Guttry arrived home from a month's visit with friends inGrieshiem, a suburb of Mannheim, Germany. She also made side trips to Salzburg, Austria, Heidelberg and H itler's private retreat in Berchtesgaden. This is located in a beautiful area of Upper Bavaria. The people still wear their native costumes and go in for a lot of hiking. Wayne Pyzer, a youthful looking evan gelist, will be speaking at assemblies in the Sheridan and Willamina schools on October 22 and 23. The title of his toopic, "To thine own self be tru e," is borrowed from Shakespeare, and is aimed at the high school and junior high age groups. Pyzer speaks about current problems that affect the youth. The Willamina high school assembly is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 22. The Sheridan assembly will be Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the high school. The 7th and 8th grade students from Chapman will also attend this assembly. On Tuesday, .the 23rd, at 12:45 p.m. Pyzer will be speaking to the 7th and 8th grade students at Willamina grade school. A ceram ics class is being taught at the Legion Hall on Fridays by M rs. Frances Freeman. There is room for more and both men and women are wel come. Ray Morrison, a form er Willamina resident now living in Portland, was at the Legion Hall in Sheridan Friday after noon to see about organizing a Gold Stär Mothers chapter in Sheridan. M rs. Mor rison is president of the Memory chap te r in Portland and vice-president of the Gold Star Mothers state organiza tion. It takes ten mothers to form a chapter and only 5 showed up on F ri day. Werth, WiUamina, of the Grand Ronde United Methodist Church has accepted th^invitation to attend the "Convocation on our Christian m ission," which will be held in Portland, Oregon, October 1. , A /'G re at big thank you" is offered by the committee to "Send our basket ball team to Hawaii" for the excellent community participation in the cake raf fle at last Thursday night's football game. A "thank you" is extended to those donating baked goods, and a "thank you" is extended to those who purchased the item s. A total of $27 was received. The bride, daughter of Mr. and M rs. Jam es Craigg,. was given in marriage by her father. Choosing a blue-green color theme, the bride wore a gown of white sparkle organza with a blue antique satin sash and bow. She also wore a jade neck lace, a present from her grandmother, and jade earrings, a gift from the bride groom's mother. Her brief bouffant veil was held by a band of white daisies, baby blue and green chrysanthemums and baby's breath. Carolyn Me VIcher of Richland, Washing ton, was the b ride's honor attendant. Her sisters, Laura and Peggy Craigg, both of Forest Grove, were bridesm aids. The groom, son of Mr. and M rs. Wil liam Vahlenseich of Sheridan, had, as his best man, his brother, Steve Ryan of Hermiston. Ushers were Tony Hadley of Willamina and Gevin Reid of Grand Ronde. Valerie Michelson, niece of the groom, and Jam es Craigg, brother of the bride, were candlelighters. At the reception following the wedding, guests included: the groom's siste rs Sonja Michelson of Springfield, O re. and Alice Scott of Willamina, who cut and served the wedding cake; the bride's aunts, Brenda Roth and LeJean Craigg; Valerie Mich elson, who held the guest book, and Jam es Craigg and Dorothy Cornels who received the wedding gifts. After a wedding trip to British Colum bia, the couple will make their home at La Grande where both are enrolled at Eastern Oregon College. The bride is a music major and the groom is majoringin business. Ryan is also employed by the United States National Bank in Sheridan. High Tuesday, Oct. 9, to nearly break even with their games. The eighth grade team played eight games with Sheridan winning four. The seventh graders played six games, Sheridan win ning only two.
