She also agreed with Mrs. Jenne, when she was cut .off, that there is a lot of dissatisfaction with the high school and “when people spend money on a toll call to tell me they are voting no on the ^budget, I feel they really mean it.” Ken Wright: Didn’t have any y thing to add although he had heard reasons second hand. The official police report of the incident is as follows: Three men were charged with assault and battery, disorderly conduct and other charges here early Saturday- morning after a Willamina Policeman was attacked. Police Chief Bill Hale said Roy Zimbrick, 39, Roy King, 33, and Ed Larson, 30, were charged with assault and battery and disorder ly conduct. Zimbrick was also charged with interfering with a police officer and escaping arrest. a rre st, Officer Freeman was assaulted about 12:30 a.m. Saturday out side Benny’s Tavern. The three men had been refused service at the tavern and F ree man had been called in. King and Larson were arrested at the scene of the assault, and Zimbrick was arrested on Mon day on four Municipal Court War- rents. Zimbrick’s bail was set at $1,620. All three men have been released on bail. Officer Freeman received out patient treatment at the McMinn ville hospital and was released after X-rays and examination. The cases are scheduled for hearing in the Willamina muni cipal court July 26. That That was was ,h, the official police version. However, eyewitness reports and reports of partici pants disagree. According to Roy King and other persons who were present at the time, the story goes something like this: Sometime after midnight on Sat urday morning, officer Freeman entered the tavern and told Roy Zimbrick that he would have to leave. Zimbrick was with com panions Roy King and Ed Larson. Zimbrick asked why he would have to leave and, according to various persons, Freeman said “ I don’t know.” Zimbrick reportedly demanded to know why the order was given for him to leave, saying that he would do so if given a reason. sBi . , . _ Zimbrick and Freeman then stepped outside to discuss the matter. After waiting for a couple of minutes, King and Larson went outside to see what was going on. King said that Patrolman Freeman told Zimbrick that he was under arrest. Zimbrick reportedly demanded to know what charges he was being a r rested oh. Freeman, it was told, did not inform him of the re a son for his arrest. Finally, Freeman went to his patrol, car as if to leave, and Zim brick made some remark (wit nesses do not agree what it was) that angered Freeman. , At that point, Officer Freeman came back and started spraying .... Zimbrick repeatedly with mace. Larson stepped in, saying “Hey, you don’t have to do that!” where upon Freeman began spraying Larson with mace. Larson escaped and/ ran off around the block with Freeman in pursuit. - King helped Zimbrick up and asked if he were all right. Zim brick said that he was and went home. King then , heard a commotion around the corner. He went to see what was happening and found patrolman Freeman giving a sev ere beating to Larson, who had been rendered helpless by mace. King reportedly grabbed F ree man and told him to stop beat ing Larson. Freeman shoved him away and King was report ' & ed to say “ Nobody pushes me around like that.” King then hit Freeman, giving him a shiner. Freeman arrested King and Larson on charges of assault and battery and disorderly conduct. Later, all three members of the Willamina Police department a r rived at the Zimbrick home, but did not make an arrest at that time; choosing instead to wait a couple of days before a rre st ing him on four counts. Which version is correct - - whether the three men behaved in a disorderly manner and assault ed Officer Freeman - - or whether Officer Freeman lost his temper and assaulted the three men — Will not be known until the cases have been heard in Gourt.
