In one of The' recently remodeled upper story and new roof of the Gerald Rivers home went up in one of Willamina’s biggest fires so far this year. On Monday, March 26,' an overheated flue touched off an upstairs bedroom and spread to the roof. The new roof, which Willamina’s biggest fires this year, the newly remodeled upstairs and brand new roof sustained an estimated $4,000 worth of damage. had been placed on top of the old one, slowed firem en’s efforts to cut openings and control the blaze. Assisting their father in the attempt to save thei r home were Roger and Gary Rivers (16 and 17). Also helping were Philip, 14, Brian, 10, Laura, 8, and Lisa, 4. Most of the furniture and clothing were saved except for some water damage. One of the firs t firefighters to arriv e w as. Randy Holmston,. a Willamina student. Other Willamina student firefighters Not' even a week la ter, on Sunday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. the home of Wayne Grippin and family was caught in a nearly identical fire. Apparently who helped quench the blaze were Paul Love, Dave Reid, Dan Felton, Kelly M orris and Greg Mosser. Estim ated damage was $4,000. Another fire, evidently touched off by chimney sparks, destroy ed the upper story of the Wayne Grippin home on fourth* ,street Sunday night at 7:30._ Extent of damage is ast known as this paper goes to press, but the childrens’ rooms were con sumed and floor fered some water damage. M iller for the d is position of her estate, we are printing the contents of her will. P erm ission to publish the will was granted by the City of Wil lamina. LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT MARY CHRISTINA MILLER Know all persons that I,.MARY CHRISTINA MILLER, being of sound and disposing mind and memory and not acting under du ress, malice, fraud or undue in fluence of any person whomso ever, do make, publish, and de clare this to be my L ast Will and Testam ent as follows: FIRST, I hereby nominate, con stitute, and appoint the PIONEER TRUST COMPANY, SALEM, OREGON, as the executor of my estate. SECOND, I hereby devise and bequeath all of my property, real and personal, wheresoever situated and whatsoever kind to the city of Willamina, a munici pal corporation, IN TRUST, how ever, for the creation of a public park in said city, county of Yam hill. state of Oregon. THIRD: It is a condition of this TRUST that an appropriate permanent m arker shall be e re c ted and maintained within said park designating the same as the TINA MILLER MEMORIAL PARK. FOURTH: My said trustee is hereby authorized to use said property, or the proceeds of the sale thereof , as a matching fund with any available governmental funds to provide maximum park and recreational facilities for the children and citizens of the city of Willamina all as afore said. FIFTH: I hereby declare that I have no lineal descendents. The above is the will of the late Mary Miller, who willed her p ro perty to the City of Willamina, said property, Or the proceeds there from, to be used for the creation of a park and re c re ational facilities for the children and citizens of Willamina. There is tentative action by the City Council to purchase the house, using $15,000 Federal Sharing Fund money, the money to be put in the,M iller savings fund to be used for a m em or ial park and the house converted to city use. The two lots joining the house are planned for a fenced play ground for children. Action will be taken at the April 12, City Council meeting, follow ing the April 5, budget committee meeting. The 14th Tony Staley, recent associate editor, rep o rter and all-around helper for THE TIMES, is the new editor of the Molalla Pioneer. Staley started his journalistic ca reer three months ago as a part-tim e rep o rter and did such an outstanding job that he is now a full-fledged editor.
